There are many starting points, depending on where you are coming from in the city. Closest to town are Knyazhevo, Boyana, Dragalevtsi and Simeonovo. The Simeonovo gondola lift is down on the ring road and takes you up to Aleko, which in winter months is the centre of the ski resort.
From there you can walk along the plateau or take any one of many marked paths, including one right up to Cherni Vruh (Black Peak) the top of the mountain (approx. 2 and a half hours' walk each way). You can take the chair lift up or down to Black Peak to shorten the walk.
The Dragalevtsi open chair lift (up the road from Dragalevtsi village square) ends up somewhere in the middle of the plateau.

Skipping Alexander Nevsky Cathedral would be like going to Milan and not seeing the Duomo. Even if you don't plan on seeing it, you most probably will end up there at some point anyway.
Alexander Nevsky is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world. It was built to honor the Russian soldiers who died during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, as a result of which Bulgaria was liberated from Ottoman rule. We'll let you discover more about it when you get there.

Lions' Bridge is a bridge over the Vladaya River in the centre of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, built 1889-1891 by Czech architect Václav Proše. The most notable feature of the bridge are the bronze lion sculptures, lions being the Bulgarian symbolic animal. The Prošek family also designed and built the similar but eagle-themed Eagles' Bridge marking the city centre's eastern border in 1891.

Lions' Bridge is a bridge over the Vladaya River in the centre of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, built 1889-1891 by Czech architect Václav Proše. The most notable feature of the bridge are the bronze lion sculptures, lions being the Bulgarian symbolic animal. The Prošek family also designed and built the similar but eagle-themed Eagles' Bridge marking the city centre's eastern border in 1891.
This red brick rotunda is considered to be Sofia's oldest building, tracing its roots to the 4th century. It was part of Serdika - a Roman town which Constantine the Great used to call "my Rome". You can still see some remains of the ancient city while walking around the rotunda. Go there and learn more about the dramatic history of our town!

Either way, go and see the building and relax in the beautiful gardens out front, you will enjoy it very much.
