Tired of waiting for the waiter to bring you another beer? Well, at Ale House the beer is stored in fermentation tanks and circulates through pipes, ending at each table with a beer tap! The food is decent, so you could grab a bite, but don't go there unless you are a beer lover. Reservations aren't needed.

By the way, the best cocktails in town are at By The Way, which is right on Broadway. Clarification: Broadway is the nickname of Rakovski Street in Sofia and the name of the bar serving the best cocktails is "By The Way". Just our sense of humor (or lack thereof) getting in the way there...:)

A pretty popular club, both with locals and foreigners. The music varies, but you can expect commercial house/trance or hip hop on some nights. It's open on weekends and Thursdays after 11pm. If you go before 00:30 you might be able to find a seat at the bar, but if you want a table or a few seats you need to book at +35987707808 . Face control could get strict - avoid shorts, trainers or flip flops.

Memento is a cafe and bar located on the Bulgarian Broadway (Rakovski Street). During the day you can enjoy coffee, tea or some snacks (and why not a glass of wine or a cocktail, you are on holiday after all!:)) As the evening approaches the music will become louder, more people would come and they will stop serving hot drinks... When it's warm outside this is the bar-to-be-in in the city. We call it "the beach bar" but hey, don't expect a beach on Broadway! Keep in mind there's another Memento, located in the National Palace of Culture (NDK). It's also pretty cool!

Yalta is the oldest and most famous Bulgarian club. Located right opposite Sofia University, the emblematic establishment has been ranked among the world's top 100 clubs a lot of times over the course of the years. There are many starting points, depending on where you are coming from in the city. Closest to town are Knyazhevo, Boyana, Dragalevtsi and Simeonovo. The Simeonovo gondola lift is down on the ring road and takes you up to Aleko, which in winter months is the centre of the ski resort. From there you can walk along the plateau or take any one of many marked paths, including one right up to Cherni Vruh (Black Peak) the top of the mountain (approx. 2 and a half hours' walk each way). You can take the chair lift up or down to Black Peak to shorten the walk. The Dragalevtsi open chair lift (up the road from Dragalevtsi village square) ends up somewhere in the middle of the plateau.

Bulgaria's largest theatre is one of the most important landmarks in Sofia. It is a gorgeous building which has been functioning as a theatre for over 100 years and still hosts plays from the most notable Bulgarian directors. Unfortunately most plays aren't really suitable for foreigners unless you speak Bulgarian, but you should check out if there's a balet performance or opera and give it a shot. Either way, go and see the building and relax in the beautiful gardens out front, you will enjoy it very much.
