Trinity lies at the beating heart of Dublin city centre. Over 15,000 students attend the college, which was founded by Queen Elizabeth 1. Stroll around, enjoy a picnic on the lawns, sip a pint in the Pavillion Bar while watching the cricket and, best of all, visit the Long Room and the world-famous Book of Kells.

The museum offers some of the most cutting-edge exhibitions in Ireland, all in a beautiful old iconic stone building that used to be a military hospital. There's a top-notch cafe, or you can just browse the books in the shop or stroll around the various, ever-changing exhibitions and installations.

This is one of the real gems of Dublin city. Shortly to be renovated to make it wheelchair accessible, and to add a much-needed cafe, this is a genuine Victorian throwback - a museum of a museum, really. Walk in and you are immediately transported back to the great days of exploration when intrepid scientists collected specimens of a vast range of animal and plant life and had them preserved and put on display. There are rows and rows of stuffed animals in glass cases, a wonderful little shop, a truly impressive skeleton of a blue whale - the largest mammal in the world - and a dizzying display of the weird and wonderful from around the globe. Worth a visit just to experience a sense of the excitement that seeing these animals brought to those who saw them in the wild, decades ago.

This impressive, large gallery boasts a little bit of everything: a fantastic shop, an airy restaurant with delicious food, a jaw-dropping contemporary extension, a fine collection of Irish art and a cross-section of international art ranging from the 12th century to the early 20th and beyond. And if you love Caravaggio, then you're in luck, because the Gallery is home to one of the finest: The Taking of Christ. This study in chiarascuro - the interplay of shadow and light - was found to be a genuine Caravaggio after decades hanging in a Jesuit house in Dublin. But the gallery also has a fine collection of watercolours by WH Turner, displayed only in the weak, brittle light of January so they won't deteriorate. A great place to wander, get a bite to eat and simply take in the art on the walls.

This is just a delight - an innovative little museum right in the heart of Dublin, and all ABOUT Dublin - its character, its heritage, its vibrant culture and people. Great value for money, if only for the guided tours alone- entertaining and informative in equal measure.
