There is absolutely no question why Chin Chin has an endless line of people pouring out the front of it most nights of the week. Epicureans from near and far come to experience the south-east asian magic that they serve here. Chef selects a number of dishes and you basically keep eating until you're ready to undo the top button of your pants. Get in early, queues can be an hour and a half long and when you're hungry and can smell the lemongrass wafting out, it hurts.

Frank Camorra’s MoVida is the restaurant responsible for setting off Melbourne’s ongoing fixation with modern Spanish tapas. What started as a casual tapas bar has, over the years, developed into an in-demand comedor (dining room)with bookings, often months in advance, essential. The gap left for a more relaxed tapas bar is filled by sister restaurant MoVida Next Door. Dinner at MoVida can quickly turn into a pricey occasion as it's hard not to get carried away. The menu of tapas and racion is designed to be shared – but avoid overdoing it early so you can leave room for desert. If you’re feeling adventurous, let the kitchen order for you and sample a cross-section of signature dishes.

A must drink barista coffee... consider top 10 in Australia. Seven Seeds takes its name from the precious cargo which Baba Budan smuggled out of Yemen and into India during the 17th century. By strapping seven seeds of fertile coffee to his waist, Brother Budan broke through the tightly regulated system which had, until then, kept coffee cultivation within the confines of the Arabic world. Because of Baba Budan and his determination to spread coffee around the world, we are now able to source beans from the Americas, Africa and Asia.

Inspired by the modern bodega, Bomba Tapas Bar and Rooftop has replaced the old Aylesbury with a more casual venture, allowing chefs and co-owners Jesse Gerner and Andrew Fisk to return to their Spanish roots and cook dishes from the entire region. Essentially a Spanish workers bar, simple and affordable tapas bites of fried oysters, cheesy manchego croquettes and small char-grilled sourdough montadidos with tomato and Serrano jamon are perfect for sharing, with raciones on hand for larger appetites (the predominantly Spanish wine list comes well within budget too).

Who doesn't know about this cafe? Located amid the mish-mash of eateries on Hardware Lane sits a tiny cafe that pulls in a large number of city dwellers all week. The interior is clean and bright and the space is small, but there are several tables out the front overlooking the lane to help with indoor overflow. The counter is adorned with sweets. Macarons are set in lines next to other baked goods such as almond praline biscuits and croissants, which go down well with coffee in tea party crockery or teapots with colourful, woolly cosies.

The Bourke Street Mall is a pedestrian and tram-only strip running between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets. The mall is Bourke Street's most famous feature and contains retail hubs like Melbourne's GPO, Myer's flagship store and David Jones' second flagship. Concepts for a Bourke Street Mall were drawn up as early as 1964 by Robin Boyd and Frederick Romberg[4] however the ambitious multi-platform design which separated cars from pedestrians was never realised. Plans were eventually scaled down with pedestrians sharing space with a grade level tramline. The pedestrian mall was officially opened in 1983 by Their Royal Highnesses, Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales.
