Pretty much a holy place ;), if you didn't see the murals around the city, Hajduk and Torcida are a pretty big deal in Split. Would recommend visiting if there is a game during your stay, the atmosphere is something else. But choose tickets for east or west, north can be a bit too much for first timers. :)

Marjan (Croatian pronunciation: [mârjan]) is a hill on the peninsula of the city of Split, the second largest city of Croatia. It is covered in a dense Mediterranean pine forest and completely surrounded by the city and the sea, making it a unique sight. It is also the setting for numerous beaches and jogging trails as well as tennis courts and the city Zoo, all surrounded by the scenic forest. The tip of the peninsula houses the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (Institut za oceanografiju i ribarstvo, IZOR). Marjan is 178 m tall and offers a view of the entire city, the surrounding islands, and the nearby mountains of Mosor and Kozjak. Beaches Kašjuni and Bene are located at the foot of Marjan hill.

Beautiful mountain and awesome views when you get to the top. You can take different roads, depending on your level of experience. Make sure to wear proper shoes (no flip flops etc)and outfit (there can be snakes in the summer) and always bring some food and water. Enjoy the mountain but respect its force as well. You don't want to be one of the tourists we hear about in the news ;)

Gradske četvrti

Veli Varoš and Lučac keep the Split city core in a "historical sandwich", competing for the title of the oldest suburbs. Citizens of Lučac boast with the ancient Illyrian toponym Radunice, while the citizens of Veli Varoš stress their ancientness climbing the Marjan hill above. Veli Varoš abounds with well preserved local architecture and original local ambient. Walking uphill in Veli Varoš should be repeated couple of times in order to perceive the remainder of the games stones play up the steep streets and in order to catch all the details while looking over the rooftops from the Prva Vidilica (First Peak). Among the best known architectural monuments the most famous is the Church of St. Mikula from the 11th century, on the lintel above the facade, next to the images of lionesses is the name of the citizen Ivan and his wife Tiha.
