Good for drinks or food, a popular evening destination in Kyleakin, only a few minutes walk down the road. Can get busy, booking recommended but not essential.

Another popular place for visitors and locals, to eat or drink. Has a pool table. 5 mins walk. Can get busy for food, particularly from about 7-7.30pm. Booking is not available, it's a case of turning up and seeing if there's a table but the service is quick so it's not usually too long a wait. Has great views of the bridge, and Loch Alsh, particularly at sunset.

Very nice burgers, they also do hot dogs, breakfast rolls, cakes and drinks. (Closed Sundays and Mondays). Well worth a visit as this is one of many beautiful areas of Skye. There are some lovely pools and falls over the road nearby and if you're enjoying the scenery you could consider carrying onto Elgol for more great views. About 25 minutes away by car. There are many good walks in the area.

Sightseeing

You probably passed this castle on your way here. It's worth a look, you can buy tickets and explore inside, where there are plenty of artifacts to see. It was originally built in the 13th century, was destroyed in the 18th century and rebuilt in the 20th century.

An Iron Age Broch, which is an ancient fort, this one of the best preserved brochs in Scotland. Just over the road is Dun Brewery, where you can buy beer, drinks and cake. (They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). There is another Broch, Dun Grugaig nearby. If you decide to take a trip here, we would recommend driving to the ferry at Kylerhea and crossing there. You'll drive through a beautiful pass, with great views of mainland Scotland and the ferry is a manually operated turntable ferry, the only one of its kind still in operation. The crossing is great, with a good chance of seeing seals and other wildlife. We would then recommend returning via the road, where you will pass over the Ratagan Pass for more stunning views, this time over Loch Duich.

You can take a 1 or 2 hour trip very nearby on the Seaprobe Atlantis, a glass bottomed boat. It's a good way to see wildlife above and below the water.

This is one of our favourite places to visit, we would highly recommend it. It is the steepest ascent of any road in the UK, with a narrow, winding, single track. it's a great drive, with some of the best views in the area. (Top tip. If you find yourself in group of more than two cars, stop to let them pass, as if you meet another vehicle coming the other way, you'll struggle to find a passing place big enough for you all). If you carry on over the pass you'll get to Applecross, where there is an Inn and an excellent fish and chip van (both closed on a Tuesday). Your satnav will probably tell you it is just over an hour away but it is worth allowing at least half a day for this trip, as there are plenty of beautiful places on the way, to stop at. Lochcarron is on the way there and has a good village shop and some toilets.
