Our favourite beach spots in Geneva

If you're spending time in Geneva between May and September, you'll want to check out the city's beaches to make the most of the lake and the amazing views around it. Here are a few ideas to start you off (ranked from closest to furthest away from our flat).
This is the first beach you'll find when you head towards the lake from our flat. It's right next to Genève Plage (it was actually the first public beach in the Eaux Vives area before the recent extension). This one is a sandy beach and you'll find a bit more shade on the left hand side under the big trees if you need to. This is the swans' favourite beach so you might have a couple of close encounters, but if you don't bother them then you should be all fine. ;) For snacks you can try one of the cafes on the promenade, or avoid the tourist queues and check the local ice cream shops (Manu Gelato or Gelatomania) on rue des Eaux-Vives.

The newly-expanded public beach in Geneva is a great spot if you want to have a dip in the lake, or simply chill on the beach for the afternoon / evening. This is a pebble beach, although you'll find large grass areas on the other side of the promenade. For food, try Le Restaurant de la Plage on the far end, for both snacks or brunch options.

Le Bain des Paquis is on the other side of the lake from our place and Genève Plage. They are branded as public bath houses, but it's a lot more than that. Amazing spot for a dip in the lake, or just sunbathing on the decks. You can also try the sauna / hammam or even the diving platforms. They also run events and have a restaurant which is anything but fancy but always delivers great food. In the summer you'll pay a small fee to get in. For a full local experience, take the "mouette" (those little boats that cross the lake which are part of the public transport network) from les Eaux Vives straight to Les Paquis.

One of the prettiest parcs of the city, la Perle du Lac also has access to the lake. You'll find a few spots along the bank where people chill on the rocks or have a dip in the water when sitting in the park gets too hot. Its a great spot to bring your disposable bbq and you'll find lots of families and groups of friends spending the whole day there in the summer.

Le Reposoir is a great spot to settle for the day. Its (grass) beach offers an amazing panorama (with the Mont Blanc the star of the show), and you can just stumble to the beach bar & restaurant when you get hungry or want to sip a drink in the shade. Try the classic fillets de perche for a local favorite. You can also hire stand up paddles if you're feeling active. It's a little tucked away from public transport, as the bus 25 will take you to the Jardin Botanique and you will need to walk about 10 mins from there. Don't forget you can also take Donkeys Bikes (Geneva's equivalent to Uber or Lime bikes).

Stunning little stony beach in Versoix. There's parking on site if you're coming by car, otherwise you will have to take the train from Geneva Cornavin to Versoix. The surrounding park is super well maintained and even in peak times you won't feel crammed. The sunset is breath-taking!
