2 minute walk to enter the park from our house. Big children's playground with a historic carousel is a 3 minute walk from our house. JFK Dr. is close to cars and a wonderful place to walk and ride bikes. Rent bikes at the park entrance at Stanyan and Haight St. or at one of the bike shops on Stanyan. Rent bikes and paddle boats at Stowe Lake. Walk and ride 3 miles through the park to Ocean Beach.

Be very careful near the water. Strong swimmers only. World-class surf break from October through March. Rip currents, cold water, and big surf. People die here every year. Great Highway runs along Ocean Beach and is currently close to cars so a nice place to walk and ride bikes. You can actually rent bikes and ride through Golden Gate Park to Great Highway for a 12-mile ride on roads and trails that are often close to cars (especially since Covid).
