Public transport is a good and cheap way of getting around. Public transport in Mijas is limited to the bus service but this will take you to Malaga, Marbella, Fuengirola or even just a few urbanizations further within Mijas Costa. You can use public transport to Mijas upon your arrival from the Airport or train station of Malaga. But even once you have reached your destination, it is easy getting around with the bus service that is offered. As with several other European countries, train services are modern, extensive and efficient, making travel by train to and from very quick & easy

Walking is possibly the best way to see the sites , it is free, and it allows you to take whichever route you want with as many stops as you please, allowing you to view only the things you really want to see and spend as long as you wish doing so. Guidebooks are available at the Tourist Information Office but please note that these are not free

Another energetic and easy way to travel around is by bike, this is much faster than walking so you are likely to see more of the sights travelling on a bike. You can of course use your own bicycle but, if you do not have a bike in the city with you it is possible to rent a bike for a few hours, half a day or a full day (prices vary according to the hire company).

There are numerous Taxi stands throughout Mijas ad yu can get a taxi directly from Malaga Airport these are though quite costly an average Taxi from and to the airport will cost around €50 each trip. However, if you are just needing this for a local trip this method of getting around can be faster. The initial rate is €1.30 for an evening then 0.75€ for each km in the day. Of an evening the charge goes up to €2 and then €1.10 per km

Car Hire is very popular in Spain and that said you can get some really good deals due to it being so competitive. Manypeople hire directly from the Airport which makes dropping and picking up the car much easier . There are a number of car rentals in the terminal but my advice would be to book this in advance of your trip as in high season they can get booked up.

The market is situated on the large carpark in La Cala de Mijas just opposite the Aldi. The market is open on Wednesday and Saturdays from 10:00 am till around 2:00pm. They have various stalls selling anything from traditional spanish goods, clothes, toys, pottery and much more. It is well worth an hour or so browsing through the stalls

Please note that many local shops close between 2pm and 4pm each day for Siesta. You will however find that the Large Supermarkets such as Aldi, Lidl remain open all day from 9:00am-21:00

PLease do not drink tap water. Ensure that you buy bottled water from the supermarket or local shops for your hot/cold drinks

Please be aware that sme toilets charge a small fee for using. Carry some small euro coins when you are oout and about just in case!

Please beware of local Pickpockets and ensure that your wallet, purse etc are kept on your persons at all times. Unfortunately Pickpockets are rife in Spain and my asdvice would be to not hang around watching the local street entertainers for too long

Buy these at the Supermarket- Local supermarkets/shops can be expensive-Shop for snacks and Drinks at lidl or Aldi as they are the same price as at home Edit

If possible use the local transport services. Buses are cheap and run very frequently and go to numerous destinations up and down the coast line

Always walk around for a while before choosing a restaurant and dont be pbliged to sit down at the first one. You will find some lovely tavernas/restaurants if you move a little further off the main drag where the food and service is just as good and much cheaper

Book your tickets online in advance as sometimes they discount prices if you book in advance

Book your car hire in advance to save any disappiontments when you get here. One of the most competitive car hire places is at Malaga Airport-GOLD CAR snd they operate a key and go system which is quick and easy and no queues!

Spain gets very hot around the high seasons and you will want to wear loose comfortable clothing during the day if you are walking around

Dont forget to pack sunhats and sunglasses you will need these peak season especially if you are bringing toddlers with you
