East Head is a moving spit of sand at the end of West Wittering beach with stunning views of The Isle of Wight & the harbours of Chichester. It is my favourite walk with our Cavapoo Bentley. The walk all the way round the spit takes about 45 minutes. It is an absolute must during your stay. You will still have to book the car park but it is worth it. Postcode PO20 8AJ

If you climb to Trundle Hill you can enjoy wonderful views over the South Downs, Sussex, Hampshire & the English Channel. The Iron Age Hillfort sits on the top of the 675 foot summit, above Goodwood Racecourse. You can park at the Seven Points Car Park at the end of Town Lane. POSTCODE PO18 0SP

Kingley Vale was designated one of our Englands first National Nature Reserve in 1952. Kingley Vale is known for its twisted & ancient yew trees and a sight to behold. Several are over 500 years old, with the oldest measuring more than 5 metres in girth. The whole walk takes you through the woods & then opens up into open countryside. From there you can walk all the way up to the top where you will have stunning views of the Solent, the Isle of Wight & the South Downs. I have to admit I’ve never reached it to the top, but have taken peoples word for it! Postcode PO18 9BE

Favourite pubs/restaurants

The Crown & Anchor is undoubtedly one our favourite places. It is an award winning 18th century pub & restaurant. If we have friends staying, we will nearly always take them there. Not only is the food very good but it is tucked away in a beautiful corner, with spectacular views across Chichester harbour. It is always worth booking a table with a view. They also have a lovely outdoor seating area & take dogs inside & outside. Tel 01243 781712 Postcode PO20 7EE

The Crab & Lobster is our go to place for our birthdays or anniversaries who do outstanding food. It is very quaint pub/restaurant near the pretty quay of Sidlesham. They only take dogs outside, where they have a lovely patio dining area with heaters at the back. It’s pricey but well worth it. Simon & I normally go for lunch where there have a very reasonably priced set menu. Tel 01243 641233 Postcode PO20 7NB

Billy’s On The Beach is a shabby chic cafe/restaurant. It is the only local restaurant which looks over the sea. Billy’s has a lovely buzz to it & it’s a fun place to take children. Billy’s take dogs inside & outside. It’s worth booking a table as it gets busy. There is an outside seating area at the front. A wonderful place to go to watch the sunset on the beach after a good meal. Tel 01243 670373 Postcode PO20 8JH

The Boathouse is a stylish cafe/restaurant serving lovely food with views over Chichester harbour. We like going there for breakfast ( they have newspapers, which is a nice touch), also for drinks/evening meals watching the sunset. My daughter Poppy loves going there because you can watch the posh boats coming in & out of the lock! Tel 01243 513203 Postcode PO20 7EJ

The Spotted Cow is a cozy local pub with a lovely ambience, serving excellent beer. You can walk there from Fair Winds, along the canal. Head towards the south. The Spotted Cow is in Hunston.

Walking into Chichester

There is a beautiful walk to the centre of Chichester, along the canal . It should take around 15 minutes.
