This hidden close off of the Royal Mile was transformed into a bustling 18th century market street in season 3 of the Outlander series. Stepping off the Royal Mile and into the closes of Edinburgh is a bucket list item in the city. You never know what you may find when you walk down the wynds. But, it’s even better when they transport you into the world of Outlander too! Tweeddale Court is really easy to find along the Royal Mile. Notable landmarks nearby will be the famous World’s End pub which is right next door. It’s also a favourite haunt of Dougal Mckenzie in the Outlander Novels.

Are you looking for the A Malcolm Outlander Print Shop? Look no further than Bakehouse Close Edinburgh on the Royal Mile!  Who can forget the iconic scene where Claire visits Jamie’s, or Alexander Malcolm’s Print Shop in Carfax Close in series 3 after 20 years apart? Carfax Close doesn’t exist in Edinburgh but Bakehouse Close was the place that the Outlander team chose to feature the print shop. As one of the most preserved historic closes off the Royal Mile, you’ll feel like you’ve been immersed in 18th century Edinburgh as soon as you walk through the tunnel. Bakehouse Close is one of 80 closes that fall off the Royal Mile. A ‘close’ is a Scottish term for alleyway, but they can also be called close, entry, court or wynd. They were named after the famous occupant who lived in the close at the time, or a trade that the residents of the close were known for. So, Bakehouse Close was named for the bakers that lived here.

These people are truly amazing! I found their shop in October 2020 and was surprised that all of them were familiar with Outlander and the tartan used from Jamie Fraser in the series (weathered MacKay tartan). They can help you to live your dream to have a kilt, scarf or anything else of Jamie’s tartan. Part of the Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers family is Loully Makes with their fabulous Outlander fashion: https://www.loullymakesdesigns.com/shop/17289297/outlandish-collection They make such an unique things! Please visit their shop which is in 5 minutes from my flat, you won’t regret! ♥️ P.S. You can find their business cards above the fireplace in the flat.
