"Michael and James Dart had a vision to create a unique shopping destination that champions local food and drink, from the farm and other incredible, passionate artisans; they wanted it to be about the home and the great outdoors; to be somewhere that you are able to go and spend the whole day. You can reconnect with nature by visiting the animals, winding your way through the vegetable fields, or wildlife spotting in the bird hide overlooking the wetlands. If you are feeling adventurous you can hire a bike and discover the beautiful views the Exe Estuary has to offer."

We like to think of Honiton BTP as an elegant English tearoom, but with the added buzz of an urban hotspot. "We have a first come, first served service style and don’t offer bookings, but we have plenty of seats throughout the cafe plus our fabulous garden. We’re a breastfeeding friendly cafe, and welcome dogs too." A lovely range of breakfast, brunch, or lunch is available here along with a wide array of beverages. "Jacob's Ladder is one of Sidmouth's two large beaches. An expanse of sand and shingle, the beach gets its name from the series of wooden steps that lead down from Connaught Gardens. Whilst the beach can be accessed via the steps it is also possible to walk around from the town's main beach via a level path. Backed by steep cliffs, there is some shelter from the breeze, particularly at the western end of the beach where you will also find plenty of rock pools at low tide. The main beach is a crescent of pebbles, steeply shelving towards the sea and overlooked by high red cliffs at the western edge. It is famous for its fat round muffin-shaped pebbles. Though the beach is quite steep, it offers excellent safe bathing, with the pebble steps making access easy. At one end of the long beach are rock pools and on the west is the estuary of the River Otter, which is rich in wildlife. A short walk to the west is the small sheltered beach at Littleham Cove, for those wanting more sand. Windsurfing is popular here and the beach was awarded the European Blue Flag for Beaches for 1990. Use of the far western end of the beach by nudists is traditionally accepted. Facilities are available in the town but there are none on the naturist beach. There are toilets on the seafront and some cafés and shops within easy reach of the beach.

"Beer beach is a popular sheltered cove just around the corner from Sidmouth. Backed by high (and geologically important!) limestone cliffs this south facing beach is a veritable suntrap. The beach itself is shingle and towards high tide can shelve quite steeply into deep water. This makes it great for swimming. Beer is a working beach with brightly coloured fishing boats pulled up on the beach. The crab pots, nets and winches are not just there to add a little charm; they are part of the small but active fishing fleet. If you'd like to do something a little more active than watch the catch being landed you can either take one of the mackerel fishing trips from the beach or even hire a small motor launch. Along with a beach cafe and toilets there are plenty more facilities a few minutes away in the village itself."

"This iconic and evocative landmark offers magnificent views of the Somerset Levels, Dorset, Wiltshire and Wales. Steeped in history and legend, excavations at the top of the Tor have revealed the plans of two superimposed churches of St Michael, of which only a 15th-century tower remains. Glastonbury Tor is known as being one of the most spiritual sites in the country. Its pagan beliefs are still very much celebrated. It’s a beautiful place to walk, unwind and relax."

Castle Drogo is situated high above the Teign Gorge. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for self-made millionaire Julius Drewe. It looks ancient, but this remarkable building was only constructed 100 years ago, the last castle ever built in England. From the beginning it has suffered from water penetration and is now undergoing a 6 year conservation project that will last until the end of 2019 to make it watertight. Inside you can explore the castle‘s refreshed layout and precious treasures displayed in new ways. Outside the castle, stroll around the formal gardens or explore the Teign Valley with its ancient gorge, teeming with wildlife. Or recharge at the café with a traditional Devon cream tea or tuck into a slice of cake.

Dating from 14th century, these medieval passages under Exeter High Street are a unique ancient monument: no similar system of passages can be explored by the public elsewhere in Britain. The Passages have long exercised a fascination over local people, with stories of wars and sieges, plague and pestilence! Their purpose was simple: to bring clean drinking water from natural springs in fields lying outside the walled city, through lead pipes into the heart of the city. The pipes sometimes sprang leaks and repairs to buried pipes could only be carried out by digging them up as we do today. To avoid this disruption the passages were vaulted and it is down some of these vaulted passageways that visitors are guided. The Passages are dark and narrow with a fascinating history. Visitors can experience interactive and educational exhibits in the Underground Passages Heritage Centre and watch a short video presentation before their guided tour.

Topsham Quay Antiques Centre was built in 1947 as a Rank Flour storage building. As a just-post-war structure it was reinforced to be bomb proof but happily this facility was never tested. Rank never properly used the building and in the 1950s it was acquired by Tuborg Lager as a storage unit. Boats brought everything up the Exe estuary and docked alongside the building. A great place to spend some time browsing the many stalls within to find a bargain

Some of the tools date back to Mesolithic times (8,000 years ago), indicating that this area has been the focus of human activity over many thousands of years." "Weymouth has long been one of the most popular seaside resorts in Britain holiday makers have been flocking to this corner of Dorset since King George III was a regular visitor more than 200 years ago. It isn’t hard to see why – the sheltered, shallow waters of its golden sandy beach are ideal for bathing, and Weymouth enjoys more sunshine than anywhere else in England, even in winter. Weymouth’s central position also makes it a great base from which to visit the Jurassic Coast, with much of the coastline in both directions easily accessible."

"Swanage is the most easterly town on the Jurassic Coast, and its gently shelving sandy beach and sheltered waters have made it a popular destination for families since Victorian times. Despite being just six miles from the urban expanse of Poole and Bournemouth, Swanage feels a world away, and retains a sense of bustling but easy-going seaside charm. The beach also holds the prestigious blue flag for beach cleanliness. The town makes a great base to explore the eastern end of the Jurassic Coast. The iconic chalk stacks of Old Harry Rocks are a three-mile walk north east along the South West Coast Path, while Durlston Head is a short walk to the south. From here there are spectacular views of the Jurassic Coast extending westwards, with the Isle of Wight visible to the east."
