Fljótsdalshérað er sveitarfélag á mið-Austurlandi sem varð til 1. nóvember 2004, við sameiningu Austur-Héraðs, Fellahrepps og Norður-Héraðs og við þá sameiningu varð til fjölmennasta sveitarfélag á Austurlandi með um 4.000 íbúa, og þar af búa ríflega 2.300 manns í þéttbýlinu á Egilsstöðum og í Fellabæ.
Um svæðið fellur Lagarfljót og Jökulsá á Dal. Hallormsstaðaskógur, stærsti skógur landsins, er innan marka sveitarfélagsins, sem er jafnframt landmesta sveitarfélag landsins.
Í sveitarfélaginu eru eftirfarandi sveitir, sem eitt sinn voru hver um sig sjálfstætt sveitarfélag: Jökuldalur, Jökulsárhlíð, Hróarstunga, Fell, Hjaltastaðaþinghá, Eiðaþinghá, Vellir og Skógar (sem áður mynduðu einn hrepp), og Skriðdalur.
Fljótsdalshérað er svipað að flatarmáli og Púertó Ríkó.
28 gönguleiðir í sveitarfélögunum Fljótsdalshéraði og Fljótsdalshreppi. Sveitarfélögin ná yfir um 10% af flatarmáli Íslands.
Perlurnar eru af ýmsum toga, fossar og vötn, gil og gljúfur, smáhellar og víkur en flestar eru þær fjöll og fjallstoppar með útsýni til allra átta.
