Unlike other large urban parks, Stanley Park is not the creation of a landscape architect, but rather the evolution of a forest and urban space over many years.[2] Most of the manmade structures we see today were built between 1911 and 1937 under the influence of then superintendent W.S. Rawlings. Additional attractions, such as a polar bear exhibit, aquarium, and miniature train, were added in the post-war period.

The northwestern section features parkland, private marinas, several rowing and boating clubs and a community centre designed by architect Gregory Henriquez. Towards the Financial District in the southeast, and across Georgia Street, the neighbourhood is dominated by high-rise office and apartment buildings. Much of the area between Hastings Street and Georgia Street is part of the city's business district and in the days when it was an upper-class residential district West Pender Street was known as Blueblood Alley because of the many large mansions along it. The six floating homes in Coal Harbour, along with the twelve in False Creek are the only legal floating homes in the city of Vancouver.

Vancouver has the world's longest uninterrupted waterfront path. The 28 km Seaside Greenway is an uninterrupted pathway, including the Stanley Park Seawall, that extends from the Vancouver Convention Centre to Spanish Banks Park. Perfect for a walk, cycle, or jog, it is the most popular recreational spot in the city. The Seawall is divided in to two clearly marked sections - one for walkers and joggers (closest to the water), and one for cyclists and inline skaters (inside path). Be sure to follow the signs to make sure you use the seawall safely, especially on sunny summer days and weekends when the area is particularly busy.

A vital part of Vancouver’s West End, Denman Street is the last major north-south arterial before Stanley Park. Because of its proximity to the park, it’s the place to get skate and bike rentals for use in the park or along the famous Seawall. (You’ll find the bike/skate rental shops at Denman’s north end, near the junction of Denman and W Georgia Street.) Denman is bracketed on either end by two of the city’s more spectacular scenic spots: English Bay Beach to the south and the Burrard Inlet to the north (where you can hop on a Harbour Cruise).

Pacific Centre Mall is the largest mall in downtown Vancouver, though you wouldn't know it to look at it. In a masterstroke of urban planning, most of the mall's 100+ stores are underground, preserving the above-ground skyline and making downtown shopping comfortable, no matter the weather. Part of downtown's central shopping district, the mall is connected by an elevated walkway/bridge to luxury store Holt Renfrew and by escalator to The Bay department store; it's also only one block away from the famous Robson Street shops.

While establishing a presence as a natural, organic grocer, Choices also gained recognition as an advocate of supporting the great number of BC dedicated food producers. Over the years, the lasting relationships that Choices has built with local food producers are more than simply buy-and-sell transactions; they run much deeper. We set aside time to get to know the people who grow and produce the local foods that go home with Choices’ customers.
