Food scene
The restaurant has a unique story, including an artist and a chef who grew up here, then went away to sew their wild oats, only to return and open up a really darn good restaurant.
Main cross salad, Kentucky Hot Brown, and Bourbon Chicken are the best, but I’m still making my way through their menu and there isn’t much I’ve had there that I wouldn’t eat again.
The service is a little weird, you wait in line and order at the counter and they tell you where to sit and give you your drink cups. From there you get waited on like any other restaurant.
Friday’s and Saturday’s expect long waits (about an hour) and lunch time waits can get to a half hour, especially on Fridays.

All the ice cream here is great but I love Cherry milkshakes and my wife loves the Praline ice cream.

Really good baked potatoes topped with brisket or pulled pork, sandwiches come on a pretzel bun. Baked beans and green beans are amazing.

Southeast of Warsaw are about a half dozen steel mills and a Power Plant. Deaton’s opens at 6 am to cater to those workers going to and from these plants. Their breakfast and desserts are made in-house and are the best place to get breakfast in town. They do have a couple tables, but this is a convenience store, so I’d plan to grab some food and sit on our back deck to enjoy.

The Sunset Grill is the best place to go for drinks in Warsaw. It is about 1.5 miles away and across from the marina and boat ramp. They sell some Cruzan rum drinks that come in a bucket—but don’t have too many! If you look it up on a map you will see why. It’s pretty much on an island and surrounded by water. I would bet it has the best views of the river around.
The food is typical ho-hum bar food, but the jumbo shrimp I had the last time I was there was quite good.

Sightseeing
Kentucky is such a beautiful state to explore the outdoors. You have the best of both worlds. In the summer, you can go boating, tubing, or water skiing on the Ohio River as well as rent a canoe or kayak from Boone's Landing. Year round offers hiking and exploring many of Kentucky's caves. In the winter, head on up to Perfect North for snow skiing. And don't forget about the Kentucky Speedway races and catching a horserace like the Kentucky Derby.
If you are up for some hiking, a hidden gem is General Butler State Park. They have well marked trails as well as a lodge for dining (not sure if the lodge is open due to COVID). Also great views on some of the trails that overlook the city of Carrollton and the Ohio River. It is about a 25 min drive from our home, so if you go, plan to stay a while. Rental boats and canoes are available at General Butler Park on Fri-Sun. Paddleboats are available seasonally.

Home of the Salt Festival in the fall where you can learn about pioneer lifeways and frontier skills.
Most will pass this Mecca of NASCAR when you drive to Warsaw. For true racing fans, tours are available on the cheap but don’t require a reservation.

The story is that some former Navy Seals were hired to pull a sunken ship from the bottom of the Ohio and would be paid for their expedition. After pulling it from the depths (how?) the benefactor balked at the last minute so the Seals just shoved the wreck up nearby Taylor Creek. There it has sat ever since, rusting away. The "Ghost Ship" can only be reached by water in a kayak or canoe. I've heard not to try driving there, as the nearby land owners don't take kindly to tourists! Not for the faint of heart, but would definitely be worth it. If you are interested in finding it, it can be Googled, or let me know and I can give you a couple options to get there.

Tom Fazio designed, it is not so challenging as to keep beginners from enjoying it, and it is very well kept. It is pricy, but if you call or check their website, they do have some discounts that will save money (like if you play after 3 pm).

It was a major stop on the underground railroad and still has that "historic vibe" on Main Street. There are wineries and shops that are great for window shopping. Florence has all the modern amenities, if that's what you desire. Florence Cinema, Florence Family Aquatic Center (with waterslides) and Florence Mall are a major draw. The Florence Y'alls baseball team plays here as well (although likely not in 2020).

Forget anything?
There is a Family Dollar store about a block away. It’s great for picking up just about anything you forgot and closes around 8:00 most nights. They do have some groceries, but for food, Sav-a-Lot or Dollar General (which has a full grocery plus fresh produce) are your best bets in Warsaw. Deaton's Market is a few blocks away and carries groceries, home baked pies and treats, and everything from fishing bait to beautiful plants. They have a delicious breakfast and lunch bar where you can pick out from their daily specials.

Boat ramp and Marina
The town has a nice boat ramp if you are bringing your own. Smugglers Cove Marina also offers rentals and on the water fuel fill up if needed.

Medical care
The closest urgent care is at Kroger in Florence, KY. There is a “Bluegrass Urgent Care” in Walton, but I wouldn’t recommend it. If you need care after hours, St. Elizabeth Hospital, also in Florence, KY is the best bet.

Sundays
Warsaw is a town of about 1,000 people, and things tend to close down early on Saturdays and some places (like Jewell’s and the hardware store) aren’t open on Sundays at all. Grocery stores are open on Sundays but you might want to just plan ahead if you are going to be here on a Sunday.
