The town of Rock is located across the Camel estuary from the fishing port of Padstow. For somewhere so sandy Rock might not seem like the most appropriate name. However, it comes from the local quarry where the rocks were used as ballast by sailing ships which had unloaded their cargo across the river. Also great places to eat such as the rock inn and mariners. water sport is also available, good and safe for children and dogs.

Port Gaverne is a sheltered, narrow cove with plenty of sand at low tide and neighbour to Port Isaac and may be the quaintest cove.

Where you will be staying, most of the old centre of the village consists of 18th. and 19th. Century ... Visitors to Port Isaac usually approach the village via the B3267 (Trewetha Lane). There is a local co op for essentials, there are many places to eat and beautiful little shops. Great harbour and platt where you can also buy local fish and shell fish great spot to do some crab fishing with children. Take a little tour around the local narrow streets and find all the famous Doc Martin spots there is also a local tour guide.

Fisherman’s Friends Shanty Singers

In port Isaac we have some very talented local lovely men who have been singing on the platt on port Isaac for years I’m 30 years old and use to go down and watch them. A few years ago someone recognised there talent and now they share there amazing shanty songs with people all over the world. They have selected dates when then sing on the harbour platt In Port Isaac dates are in the local magazine the trio which I will provide for all guest. It is free but they do a donation bucket for a charity highly recommend a fantastic experience ( they also realised a film last year in cinemas)
