Galveston is on a barrier reef sitting in the Gulf of Mexico. It is ~35 miles long and 3 miles wide at the widest part. Whether you come for the sand and sun and sea, or you come to soak up the history in the downtown area and the architecture, or let the kids play at the Pleasure Pier and swim and tube at Schlitterbahn and adventure through Moody Gardens, there is something here for everyone!
The Strand Historical District boasts plenty of shopping, dining, pub crawling, and people watching. Take a fishing charter out the bay. Enjoy the (ghost) stories and history of the buildings and businesses in the area and be sure to catch the museums downtown and on the bay.
Seawall Boulevard is the place to be to catch a surf or stand-up paddleboard lesson, hang out on the beach, swim in the Gulf, or find a great place to get a bite to eat - plenty of local options!
