In the City of Gardens, there are so many ways to enjoy green spaces, parks and naturals areas.

Beacon Hill Park has an abundance of natural features and sensitive ecology throughout roughly 740,000 square metres of parkland. A number of environmentally sensitive areas have been identified within the park and are protected through local, provincial and federal law to preserve these threatened and endangered species and ecosystems. In addition to the Garry oak ecosystem, an example of a threatened species is the Yellow Montane Violet, Viola praemorsa.
Meandering footpaths offer long strolls among manicured and natural areas and features for the whole family to enjoy. Kite enthusiasts, paragliders and sailboarders can also take advantage of the open vista across the Strait of Juan De Fuca. Beacon Hill Park has an important status as Mile "0", the western terminus of the 8,000 kilometre Trans-Canada Highway.

Walk and catch a water taxi
Victoria is truly walkable. The Inner Harbour and downtown core are best explored on foot, but there are several other types of transportation. From horse drawn carriage to double-decker bus, to water taxis-- the choice is yours!

David Foster Harbour Pathway is more than just a waterfront route. It connects visitors with key destinations in our city, from award-winning restaurants to marine-based tourism activities, and everything in between.
The Harbour Pathway celebrates our unique working harbour, giving us the opportunity to recognize Lekwungen First Nations history, enhance the natural marine habitat, and support social and economic wellbeing.
The David Foster Harbour Pathway can be found near the Janion--walk down Wharf Street and head right to the Waterfront. Take the pathway to Fisherman's Wharf!

Dallas Road Waterfront Pathway
The waterfront green space along Dallas Road is a popular destination, enjoyed by many people for a variety of uses. Located between Douglas Street and Clover Point, the green space offers a flat walking path and access to the stretch of beaches and shoreline.
Enjoy watching kite enthusiasts, paragliders and sailboarders as well as the spectacular view across the Strait of Juan De Fuca.

Connecting downtown Victoria with the Sooke potholes, this 60 kilometre trail is the perfect destination for a bike ride. Lochside Regional Cycling Trail
This picturesque 29 km multi–use trail, formerly a railway line, stretches from Swartz Bay to Victoria, past beaches, farmland, and wetlands, down country lanes and beside suburban backyards. While some parts of the Lochside Trail are off-road and others downright pastoral, in some places trail visitors must share paved or gravel public roads with motor vehicles and farm vehicles. The Lochside Trail intersects with the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. Be sure to top at Matticks Farm for ice cream or tea. Take a bus home if you are tired.
