A fantastic art museum with reasonable entry housing some of the most famous artworks in the world. The Art Institute is easily accessible by the CTA Red Line and sits right on the south side of Millennium Park. Permanent exhibits feature art by artists such as Warhol, Lichtenstein, Gauguin, Monet, and Van Gogh. There are also many temporary exhibits throughout the year so each visit is always new. Additionally, the cafeterias in The Art Institute are worth the visit.

Uncommon Ground is a restaurant, a brewery and a music venue. Hidden along the Clark Street side of UG is a room featuring live music Sunday through Thursday 8-10 PM and Friday and Saturday 9-11 PM. Although the room has changed over the decades, the music is always an after dinner treat. UG is also the home of the Green Star Brewing. It has an ever expanding sidewalk cafe and fire places afire during the chilly winter. The lunch-Brunch and Dinner menus are environmentally conscious and make for a unique eating experience.

A small but world-famous club on Halsted Ave that is known for its drag-queen divas who perform regularly. It has a charming little patio and great martinis. It's also a place to catch up on obscure films from the 20s to 60s. A popular spot for parties.

An Argentinian steakhouse in the neighborhood that is always packed to full. It is a BYOB, with wine purchasable from its related restaurant Bodega Sur just a few doors down. Though guests can expect a wait (no reservations), it is a meat-eater's paradise that is well worth it. For those more inclined to home cooking, the mercado next door offers the same cuts of meat.

Bikes are a terrific way to see and know Chicago

Chicago is bike-friendly. My husband and I ride throughout the year. But you must be vigilant even on the bike trails. You can even combine use of the CTA with Chicago's Divvy bike share system. Most L stations have bike share docks within feet of the station. If you use your own bikes, remember L trains don't allow bikes during rush hours (4-6 PM) unless they are fold ups. CTA buses have easy to use bike mounts.

Saving money and walking Chicago

Chicago is a very walkable city. It is a city of neighborhoods and each neighborhood rewards the ambulating traveler. There are three streets you can walk and find free concerts, terrific inexpensive restaurants, unusual shops and serendipities galore. Before there were the River Walk and the 606, these streets were made for walking and enjoying the many moments. Milwaukee Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, and North Clark Street. They are N-S diagonal streets. On Lincoln Avenue alone, you will discover both the Biograph Theater and the Old Town School of Folk Music.

The CTA pass

Whether you are in Chicago for a day or a week, the CTA pass is the way to go using public transport: 1 Day for $10, 3 Days for $20, 7 Days for $28. Unlimited rides! You will need a Ventra pass that is available at Ventra Vending Machines at the airports and at all "L" stations.

The Free (!) Navy Pier Trolley

The Navy Pier Trolley is a fairly relaxed way to get around the center of the city: Navy Pier, Millennium Park, The Bean aka Cloud Gate, and the Art Institute. It is a summer trolley and runs from the end of Memorial Day thru Labor Day. It, as of this writing, will not get you to the Museum Campus.

Getting to the Museum Campus from Wrigleyville/Lakeview

The Museum Campus is nearly 60 acres of fun that include the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, Soldier Field and the Adler Planetarium. The Campus is a neighbor of Northerly Island. To get there you have many choices in addition to walking and biking: take the CTA "L" Redline train stop at Roosevelt Road or or the 146 inner drive CTA bus.

Divvy bikesharing is a great way to get around the city.

With stations located all across the city, the Divvy bikeshare system is a great, low-cost option to get around and see the best sites in the city. Divvy offers pricing per trip or per day and is easy to plan around with the free mobile app. The Lakefront Trail, North and South, is great for bike riding.
