Trams are the way around Gothenburg.
As a tourist it can be a little bit difficult to understand how to buy a ticket. I recommend to buy a 2 day (48 h) ticket. That way you dont have to worry about always buying a new ticket.

Dont exchange cash.
Swedes dont use cash. I Cant even remember the last time I used cash. Card is king and some places only take card.

Gothenburg weather is never to be trusted.
Be sure to bring waterproof shoes and raincoat, then your stay will be a lot nicer.

If you are planning to do a lot of stuff, make sure to buy the Gothenburg citypass at the tourist center (Kungsportsplatsen). You can save a lot of money.
