Head to the Discovery Center for information on the local area. There is a short paved walk. Check opening times. There is another great hike close by, the Woodland Interpretive Trail that takes about an hour and gives great views of the lake. The parking lot requires a pass, but you can park on the road near the entrance.

This is a gentle loop, great for kids. Lovely views, shaded in the morning and afternoon, with overhead sun during the middle of the day. You can always take a dip in the lake across the road when you're done!

You can find the trailhead on the north shore - you'll need a discovery pass to use the lot, or park on the side of the road. Not too steep, you get great views of the lake. It's a long hike, so turn around when you feel like it - but try to make it to the scenic viewpoint.

You can buy bundles of firewood at Vons or the DIY center, or check out Big Bear Firewood over in Fawnskin 39210 N Shore Drive if you're staying a few days and want to buy in bulk.
Acosta is also close by and has the option to buy large parcels.
