Sightseeing
The tallest "horse riding" statue in the world, 40m tall, The statue of Chinggis Khan is located south of Terelj national park. Constructed in 2011 for the 800th year anniversary of establishing Mongolian state by Chinggis Khan. Going near the statue is free but it costs approx $12 to go inside where you'll be able to walk to the horse head for a panaromic view of the surrounding area. There is a display of Mongolian ger (yurt), dressing up as a Mongolian king and queen for a small fee ($2-3). There is hunting eagles for pictures, short horse and camel riding is available inside the fenced area of the complex. The statue can be quite crowded during the peak tourist season. I will leave some of the information for you to discover, such as why it was built there, why faces certain direction, how many tons of steel used etc.

The mountain and rock formation, the main water source of Ulaanbaatar, Tuul river runs though the park making it popular among foreigners and locals alike. However, the area on the way to the Turtle Rock and beyond are heavily populated with ger camps (tourist camps) and fenced resorts, which means it can be quite touristy and noisy at night (depending on the time of the year). The Turtle Rock might be worth seeing and the Aryapal meditation center became popular due to the lookout from the small temple built by a monk in 2009. For a more local experience, away from tourists and traffic, choose host family stays in the area. There are public transportation that runs hourly but might be difficult with language barrier and time schedule
