The Museum is a modern institution of culture - it is a historical museum which presents the 1000 years of Jewish life in the Polish lands. It is also a place of meeting and dialogue among those who wish to explore the past and present Jewish culture, those eager to draw conclusions for the future from Polish-Jewish history, and finally those who are ready to face the stereotypes and oppose xenophobia and nationalistic prejudices that threaten today’s societies. By promoting the ideas of openness, tolerance and truth, POLIN Museum contributes to the mutual understanding and respect among Poles and Jews. In 2016, POLIN Museum won the title of the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA 2016). POLIN Museum rose up to the challenge of creating an engaging and persuasive core exhibition without a substantial collection of artefacts. The programme of temporary exhibitions, educational activities, conferences, academic and artistic residences make the Museum a vibrant platform for dialogue and spreading the knowledge on Jewish history and heritage – reads the EMYA Jury statement.

The institution documents the history of the Warsaw Uprising. It conducts scientific-research and educational activities devoted to the history of the uprising, as well as the history and activities of the Polish Underground State. It is to rely on those who fought and fought for free Poland and its capital, showing the next generations of Poles the meaning of those events. The exhibition presents the struggle and everyday life of the uprising against the backdrop of the occupation, by showing the complex situation up to the post-war communist terror and the fate of insurgents in the PRL. The museum uses modern audiovisual techniques. They are very popular in reaching one of his main addresses, such as youth, also available in an inspirational way to tell about history and patriotism.

The owner of the building is the capital city of Warsaw. The palace is the seat of the Council of the Capital City of Warsaw, which meets in the Warsaw Hall. It houses a conference and entertainment hall for 3000 people (Congress Hall) and Youth Palace with a swimming pool. In front of the main entrance (from the side of Marszałkowska Street) there are two sculptures: Adam Mickiewicz by Stanisław Horno-Popławski and Mikołaj Kopernik by Ludwika Nitschowa.
