Regina is the capital of Saskatchewan and the second largest in the province after Saskatoon. Regina was recently named one of the best mid-sized Canadian cities in which to live. It’s population is about 235,000. The sight where Regina now stands became famous for it’s large pile of bones, with the Cree calling it “Oskana Ka-asasteki, meaning “where the bones are piled”. The first Métis settlement was called “Pile of Bones”. In 1857, the explorer, James Palister, incorrectly heard the Cree word for the area as “Wascana”, which it is still known by today. As it was prairie there were no trees. All the trees in the area were planted. (And it is sin to cut one down)
