Visit the most easterly point of Australia. The Lighthouse walk is a scenic hike that winds through rainforest, beach, grassland and cliff tops, ending at the Cape Byron Lighthouse. Keep an eye out for Wallabies, Dolphins and bird life. Take your swimming gear and stop off at Wategos for a swim on the way back. A 3.7km loop.

A long, leisurely stroll along the beach, best taken at low tide. Walk along Main Beach to the east and you will end up at The Pass. Climb the stairway to Fisherman’s Lookout for a panoramic ocean view and watch the surfers below at one of Byron’s busiest surf breaks.

Explore the headland with magnificent coastal views or swim in the large tea tree lake by the ocean. Lake Ainsworth. Then grab some takeaway fish & chips at Fishy Fishy or relax at one of my favorites for breakfast at Shelter Cafe for a feast with an Ocean View.

I also recommend hiring a paddle board or kayak to explore the river. Then stop at the pub for a beer, on a Sunday you can always catch a good local band.
If you have the time on your visit a trip out to the waterfalls will be unforgettable.

Why not set out to do the walk up to the top of Mt Warning. It’s not for the faint hearted and it’s the first place in Australia to see the sunrise if you decide to make the walk at 3am! You don’t have to go all the way to the top, you can do it slow and steady during the day. Or visit our favorite lunch spot Mavis’s Kitchen at the foot of the mountain.
