We love Caves Beach , it’s a
30 min drive from Bayview.
Beach walking and exploring the coast . There is a walk along the headland and you could spot whales migrating in the right season.
You will see large ships waiting to dock in Newcastle and if their wind is up also surf skiers enjoying the waves!
Treat yourself to a meal or drinks at The Caves Beach Resort ( it also has a children’s play area inside the restaurant area) and lovely clean amenities 😀

Catherine Hill Bay is a State Heritage Listed historic mining village featuring a stunning patrolled beach, named twice as one of 'Australia's 101 Best Beaches'. Popular for swimming, surfing and fishing, the beach also features an iconic former coal-loading jetty, evidence of the area's mining history and a popular photography spot.
Taking its name from the ship which ran aground here in 1867, Catherine Hill Bay is a small village nestled in the hinterland just south of Swansea. A former coal-mining town, its 19th-century miners' cottages mark the oldest continuous settlement in the City of Lake Macquarie.
The resulting scenery is astoundingly beautiful; Catherine Hill Bay is at once home to a long, beautiful stretch of sand, surrounded by verdant hills and bushland, and dotted with rusted iron machinery and wildflowers. This sleepy town is home to barely 500 permanent residents, yet its natural attractions are worthy of a much busier holiday destination.
You’ll find a number of lookouts and viewing platforms overlooking Catherine HIll Bay Beach, and views from the nearby picnic area at Crangan Bay reach to the tall chimneys of Eraring Power Station, as well as the mountains just beyond.

There are local tourist operators to add to the experience with dune vehicles and camel rides and sand sledges to add extra speed to riding down the sand dunes
But free fun can be had with walks along the beach - whale spotting from the beach in whale migrating season
Remember a sturdy black plastic bag or cardboard will get you sliding down the dunes 😀Ps remember sunblock and hats and water 😀

A favourite place for all our family - walks safe swimming at Shoal Bay and Fingal Bay , restaurants , fresh seafood Whale watching -just a wonderful place to either travel 1 1/2 hours or have as another holiday destination or next stop over heading up the Coast !

Speers Point park is a great place for families to spend time either for a picnic or bbq or just to watch the kids play.There is plenty of seating for the adults around each of the play areas and a good mixture of differing play areas for the kids,even a separate play area for any kids with handicaps. Trees for shade and grassed areas for picnics as well as a shop and toilets .
Highly reccomended by our family and Grandchildren
Do take your children’s bikes
There is a cafe inside this large fully fenced park if you feel
Like an ice cream or a coffee 😀
