Our favourite local restaurants. Many of the restaurants in Bowness are pretty average as they cater to the tourists and nothing more. Windermere is a better bet generally. This is a list of our favourites locally, and where we eat out. We’ve separated them into price brackets, price per person is approximate to give you a rough idea, and does vary depending on what you eat, and how much you drink! £££ (£40-60 pp) Gilpin Spice - Not even sure how to describe the food here other than unique and truly amazing! Need to book in advance - 015394 88818 Hooked - Superb Seafood - MUST book in advance - Saying you are staying at Matt & Yassmine’s might help get a table if at all possible! 01539 48443 ££ (£20-30 pp) Dodds - Ambleside - Great Mediterranean food, Pizza, Pasta but much more too. San Pietro - Windermere - Mediterranean food, Pizza, Pasta, Seafood. The Black Labrador - Underbarrow - Gastro pub style food. Might need to book - 015395 68234 Cafe Italia - Windermere - Italian food - Pizza, Pasta, Salads - cash only! House of Siam - Bowness-on-Windermere - Thai food & takeaway £ (£8-15 pp) Rastelli - Bowness-on-Windermere - Good basic italian food - Happy hour 5-7pm. Hawkshead Brewery (where they make the beer!) - Staveley - Tapas, Meat, Pub Food. Takeaways We’re not sure if the top two deliver to the house as we always go and collect ourselves. Indian - Monsoon in Bowness (also owns the Lake Raj restaurant) - Excellent - 015394 44162 Chinese - Golden Mountain Windermere - Not the best in the world, but it’s pretty good, and value for money - 015494 43429 Pizza - Domino’s Kendal - they deliver to here! - 01539 722 799
