A vibrant, attentive and homely venue with superb food and service. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. There are freshly baked artisan bread, some goods to be bought and an extensive menu. Sit outside, under the umbrellas, on the veranda, or inside. This is one of our favourite eateries in the area, and we love to pop in for breakfast or a brunch. The fresh juices are awesome, and the coffee... just bring another cup please!

This is recommended for all. For about two hours you don't think of anything else than yourself, the mountains, nature, and you "flying through the air". This is really a stress reliever and recommended for all. Bookings are essential though.

The Cheetah Centre in South Africa was established in 1971, initially as a cheetah breeding project and the Centre has during the past 40 years bred over 800 cheetah cubs. Various conservation projects have been initiated since its inception which also includes a successful African wild dog breeding programme. Known in the past as the De Wildt Cheetah Centre the name has recently been changed to the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre as a tribute to the woman who has devoted her life to the survival of the cheetahs as well as other rare and endangered species. A visit to the Ann Van Dyk Cheetah Centre is an amazing experience. If you love seeing animals, especially endangered ones, this is the place to go. The tour guides are great and give lots of information about the animals. Try to book for the early morning cheetah run - it is an incredible experience. Tour the Centre and go on the game drive through a wild dog enclosure and a cheetah enclosure. And see caracals and servals get fed along the way. You can also sponsor animals at the Centre.

You can do a self-drive through the reserve. The roads are a little rough in spots, but completely manageable in a normal sedan. The animal and bird life is amazing. You will find a large variety of mammals such as rhino, elephant, leopard & various buck species. And if you look a little closer (whilst going slower on the bad sections of the roads), you may see tortoises, a puff adder or a black mamba, or a (large) lizard crossing the road, or just baking in sun! There are some restaurants for a stop or something to eat/drink along the way. They do not an upgrade in my opinion though.

On the same road you would travel to reach Mountain Sanctuary Park, Kumbagana Game Park lies just before the Sparkling Waters Hotel (good to know as it is a perfect spot for a good cool drink, or tea and cake en route home). The hikes, for there are three routes all circular, trail through the Magaliesberg mountains renowned for its kloofs and ravines, unusual rock formations and mountain pools. With the added bonus of game viewing along the way. Routes one and three combine well into a 13 km route, whilst route two is 6 km long. Of course there are no rules, and should your group of hikers need only a 6km boost before you head back to civilisation, so be it. But effectively, for the more hardened hiker, the combination makes two days of good hiking through the Rotsboom and Hamerkop kloofs. The overnight hut is a 2 km brisk walk from the car park and you may want to factor this into your plans if you intend arriving late on a Friday evening. Another note worth making is that the descent into Hamerkop kloof is not for sissies. The sheer slope is only possible with ladders and if anyone in the party suffers from vertigo then it is tough going. Hikers say the ladder is well anchored and secure. Route 1 is 4 km, covering the top part of Hamerkop kloof. Route 2 is 6 km and is for those with more experience, because of the ladder descent. The rest of the hike is pretty steep too, although the stream will give you plenty of swimming stop opportunities. Route 3 is 9 km with a number of twists and turns before cresting the Magaliesberg. Mooinooi is a platinum and palladium mining town in the North West province of South Africa. The town lies just west of Modderspruit, roughly halfway between Hartbeespoort Dam and Rustenburg. Essentially a mining town, it rests in a valley used to grow citrus and mine chrome, and makes for wonderfully easy weekend breaks for city slickers and those after a moment's respite after a hard week's work. Mooinooi is rife with farm stays and game lodges, in an area where the weather is superb most of the year-round and where bird and animal life and an environment that promises wide open space and a feeling of getting away from it all make it a popular place to stay.
