Food Scene

Need a light night meal. Pancake Manor is open 24 hours and a short walk from the apartment. The restaurant was built in an old church, so has lots of food for the eyes as well as the stomach. Short stack with ice cream is my favourite late night snack.

Good quality food at the right price. Try the combination laksa for $10. Right next door there is a nice Malaysian restaurant. My recommendation would be chicken Nasi lemak. Yum!

Drinks & Nightlife

The CBD is great, and you should try the Treasury Casino, but it is a little slow late at night. Fortitude Valley is the place to be for live music, bars, and night clubs.

Sightseeing

Take a walk along the river so see the Story Bridge at night. What colour will it be tonight? The river walk takes you past many small restaurants, and it is quite peaceful looking out to the river. Keep to the left hand side of the path as bicycles and runners commute along the river walk. If you follow the river walk it will take you all the way to New Farm.

Parks & Nature

Take some sausages and some bread. There are free BBQs. Best to go in the evening, see the cliffs lit up and the rock climbers there while you eat your BBQ. If you get to the top of the cliff, you will get a great view of the city across the brisbane river.

Shopping

Each Sunday, Brisbane's gracious City Botanic Gardens come alive with food, music and artisan wares. Officially known as 'Riverside at the Gardens', the markets were originally a relocation of the markets that ran for many years on the waterfront at Brisbane's Riverside Centre. (They moved in 2015, without a lot of fanfare.) The Gardens markets boast plenty of food, including crepes, rosti, fresh juices, Asian offerings, and more. Nearby you'll find quality arts and crafts, including silver jewellery, Turkish stoneware, and some great fashion. If you're into the mystical, there's also a fortune teller set up under a spreading tree. A farmer's market provides fruit and veg.

Entertainment & Activities

Southbank is the jewel of Brisbane. With public swimming pools, just the place to be in hot summer evenings. On friday nights and saturdays there is a craft market. Public BBQs, try your hand at cooking a great Australian BBQ Dinner. There are many pubs and food places. Museums close by. You could spend a week exploring all that is on offer and still only see a fraction of what SouthBank has to offer.
