Food Scene

Good outdoor location at the 6th St Promenade with view of the Goebel Park clock tower. I go for the black-bean burgers, fries, ice cream, and homemade condiments.

Great atmosphere and coffee. Small, family owned home converted into a cozy coffee shop. The mother is the artist whose decorated the place with cool tile mosaics. The bathroom is worth checking out.

"We may doze but we never close." A piece of old Covington encased in amber. Good for the $ budget minded who appreciate quirky Americana. Cash only though, and yes they're still smoking inside. The jukebox with mechanical band does still work if you ask someone to turn it on.

Pretty new place. Happy hour is 5-7pm - Mexican beers for $2, if you can get in the door. Kind of a snooty hipster scene but def hot spot of the moment. Try some mezcal if you've never before. Brussel sprout tacos yum.

Some good cajun food, little on the pricey side. The mini stage above the bar that just fits a 3 piece jazz band is THE real deal tho. Worth getting a beer just to check that out.

Matt & Mary opened a folk music hub in the old commercial strip of the Ludlow, KY neighborhood. Music lessons for all ages on fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, even washboard, from some of the most impressive folk musicians in the area. These are the same founders of the Whispering Beard Folk fest after all. Their food and coffee are sourced from some of the best in the city, namely Deeper Roots and Piebird. Check their calendar for events. There are workshops on seed saving and urban foraging, for example, and the Jerry Springer Podcast is recorded live here. Some small live shows are held here and often live jams happen inside or out back. Always lively spirits from these folks.

Essentials

Laundry mat just around the corner. Quite worn out but if a machine doesn't work just call Joe, his number is on the wall. He'll come right over and get it going, no lie. lol

A good selection of organics and bulk items and healthy choice essentials. Also a deli to get lunch (though they recently did away with their hummus sandwich..): Some friends think it's just over priced but FT actually has very good sales. The silver lining is it has 1/100th of the crowd that you would find at Krogers. Newport just ain't ready for this gentrified stuff yet.

Drinks & Nightlife

Best bar in the city, imho. The best jukebox I have ever heard. Large selection of drinks at good prices. Excellent food. And some very cool live music.

A major hot spot of the OTR neighborhood with rockin live music every night. Small local and national touring bands. It can be loud. They have some good pub food, mostly for lunch I believe. Sometimes dance parties in the dank stone basement if you're not claustrophobic. If you are, out back is a nice patio space to smoke one.

Recently kicked out of the old Southgate Mansion across from the Levee, old man Ross reopened his iconic national music scene venue in an old church, and added the 'Revival' to the name. Like the old mansion, this new church also has 3 venues/stages within one building. Many serious national acts have played here over the years I couldn't even begin to list them all.

Arts & Culture

This is a 24hr contemporary art museum / hotel / restaurant. Food and drinks are on the pricey side but the galleries are free and top notch contemporary art. Exhibits change regularly. Also, just around the corner from the CAC.

Large contemporary art exhibits on 5 floors that change regularly. The 6th floor has a children's interactive museum that's pretty fun. I believe the whole museum is free now.

Parks & Nature

This was once the 'homeless park'.. then it got a 50 million overhaul and is now a major gathering point of the city. It also kicked off the renaissance (gentrification) of Over-The-Rhine, the most famous neighborhood of Cincinnati. Now the opera performs on the outdoor stage and a hundred people in spandex do outdoor yoga together. Also a dog park, killer playground, sprayground, live music, and various festivals.

The spacious Covington park with the killer view of the city and river. There are short hiking trails thru woods even, large lawn spaces, playgrounds, a band shell, museum, though half the park is a golf course. There is a little neighborhood just to the west of the overlook with some beautiful homes and trees. One of my favorite walk / runs. There is a mountain bike trail down the hillsides thru the woods, but be warned, is a bit technical.

Relatively new park just at the end of the Roebling Suspension Bridge with very cool interactive 'toys' for kids and adults. Including an indoor merry-go-round, nearby bars & restaurants, and/or some outdoor exercise equipment. I love to run to this park from the house, do some crunches on the curved bench or workout the shoulders by making the metal pig fly... yep a metal flying pig, no lie..

Sightseeing

Along Covington's flood-wall are impressive murals that tell some history of this place. This is also one of the best views of the Cincinnati skyline and the best bridge to cross over the Ohio River. A walk under the historic Roebling Suspension Bridge will take you to the affluent Riverside Drive neighborhood and a small park with some bronze statues. Then stop into The Gruff or Roebling Point Books & Coffee to refuel yourself.

Newport designated this bridge just for walking and biking. It connects the Newport Aquarium / entertainment center with Cincinnati's Sawyer Point park. Continue east along the river on the Ohio side and walk/bike the beautiful Friendship Park.

Entertainment & Activities

One of the few non-mainstream theaters in the city. Which means it plays the best new movies from around the world. Also, in possibly the most beautiful neighborhood in Greater Cincinnati. Many great restaurants nearby, the cities first co-op grocery store, as well as Burnett Woods and Mt Storm parks. I just love to walk or bike around the residential streets just behind (north) of Ludlow Ave or east of Clifton Ave. Omg the houses...
