Try the red chile enchiladas or carne adovada! Both are wonderful. Finish off with sopaipillas with honey for dessert.

It's a great, touristy place in old town! Good food, too. I recommend the Indian Taco. In true NM fashion, throw an egg on top of anything to make it breakfast.

It's one of my favorite restaurants run by a local Thai family. It's quiet, and great for the wallet right near the house.

Garcia's is a small New Mexican chain in Albuquerque. It's a pretty casual restaurant that also does take out. This is the location closest to the house, but there are more throughout the city! Note: I'd compare this to Little Anita's (another New Mexican chain with locations a bit further away).

Grab a breakfast burrito here... or a quick green chile cheeseburger in the afternoon. It's our version of an In-N-Out... but better, in my opinion.

You can walk here, if you want! Fantastic place. Trust me, you won't regret coming here. Try the adobe corn cakes too, for a sweeter side.

An all day trip and drive out of town...
If you have time, I recommend heading up to Santa Fe--you can drive or go by Rail Runner (the Albuquerque to Santa Fe commuter; make sure to check their website for the train schedule if you choose to go this way). If you drive, I'd also suggest some time spent on a loop. Start in Albuquerque, go up i40 to Cedar Crest. From Cedar Crest, drive up to Madrid where you can spend some time in shops and galleries. Then head to Santa Fe for some time in the Plaza. From Santa Fe, it's just one hour back to Albuquerque.
Iconic for its staircase, the legends that surround it, and its history. The chapel was founded by Jean Baptiste Lamy, the first archbishop of New Mexico (whose life was captured in Willa Cather's Death Comes for the Archbishop).

There's also a location in Albuquerque, but this is the original. A little on the pricier side for New Mexican food, but it's tasty! Northern New Mexican food in the Rail Yard.

The Cathedral is either beautiful or sticks out like a sore thumb--depending on your interpretation. Construction was started by Jean Baptiste Lamy and chronicled in Willa Cather's Death Comes for the Archbishop. The church was designed by a French architect under Lamy's direction to be dissimilar from other "made of mud" New Mexican churches. The church is iconic for its French style architecture in the midst of the Southwest.
