Parks & Nature

The Anacostia Riverwalk Trail is the best biking trail in the entire DC metro area. Go North to the Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens and you'll feel like you've left the city. It's rarely used and there are picnic spots along the way and at the Aquatic Gardens once you're there.

I like to come here during the Cherry Blossom festival to avoid crowds. The trees are just as good and you can stop in at the golf course club house for a pitcher of beer to relax.

Never very crowded since it's not on the mall and it's difficult to get to without a car. The Bonsai Museum is my favorite part but it's nice to just walk or drive around. It is quite large so be prepared to do some walking if you don't have a car. Excellent place for a picnic.

One of my favorite spots in the city when it's nice outside. They have a Friday night concert series that is free and tons of fun during the summer. Double check the schedule to see what is happening: https://www.capitolriverfront.org/yards-park

Drinks & Nightlife

Some of the best beer I've ever had and excellent food to boot. You really can't go wrong with this place but it can get very crowded before and after Nationals games.

One of the iconic DC nightlife spots. They have several different rooms, each with their own atmosphere. They also have live music most nights, their salsa night can't be beat. Check their website for their schedule: http://www.18thstlounge.com/index.php/schedule

Great spot for breakfast/brunch. Order something with Mumbo sauce which is a local DC thing.

Arts & Culture

Great museum but what really sets this apart in my opinion is the Kogod Courtyard. It's a great space to go and relax near the National Mall, especially when it's cold or raining outside. There is a cafe to stop and get a bite as well.

One of my two favorite museums in DC. Definitely take the time to see and IMAX movie. This is not the same IMAX that they have at cinemas around the country, they have a full 60 foot screen and amazing sound system. After hours they often show current movies so make sure to check their schedule.

This is a space for artists and as such it changes often. There is a lounge with coffee and several boutiques, and a book store.
