“Get a glimpse into pre-contact Hawaii. A beautiful setting where you can leave the modern world behind and imagine a time when Native Hawaiians lived untouched by the modern world. It is an old “sanctuary” where people could come to be spared from punishment. The bay nearby is home to turtles and a large variety of tropical fish.”

“If you are looking to learn how to surf, this is the place to do it. In the winter time there are small waves that are perfect for learning. There are plenty of surf lessons available and a surfboard rental across the street. For those that do not want to surf, there is excellent snorkeling there as well! It can get very crowded during peak times! ”

“Another amazing and soft white sand beach on this beautiful island! This is a great spot to go boogie boarding or body surfing or sun bathing...but be mindful...the waves can crash big here so if in doubt, don't go out. But enjoy the beach just the same! ”

“Spooky and beautiful, MacKenzie State Park a 13-acre recreation area perched on the jagged lava sea cliffs along the Red Road. The signature feature of the park is the largest stand of ironwood trees in the Hawaiian islands and the main attraction is experiencing the raw power of the waves along the sea cliffs. There are restrooms and a covered picnic pavilion. Camping is not advised and rogue waves are extremely dangerous so please heed the numerous danger signs. Park entrance is free but entry into lava tubes or caves is prohibited.”
