“The National Mall is basically Washington DC’s backyard – it’s a grassy lawn where visitors and locals hang out on sunny days. Full of world-class museums (we’ll get to this later) and fun festivals, the National Mall is the center of many activities in the city.”

“I’m an avid hiker and Great Falls Park hosts my go-to (and favorite) local trails. It’s GORGEOUS and hard to believe this natural wonder is only 15 minutes away! If you’re not a big hiker but love nature, it’s still worth a visit just to see the falls (they’re an easy 5-10 min walk from the parking lot). The park actually spans across the Potomac River, so there’s a VA side and a MD side. I love both. :) Recommended hikes: River Trail on the VA side (easy-moderate) and Billy Goat Trail on the MD side (moderate-difficult). If you don’t have a National Parks pass, the entry fee is $15/car for a three-day pass (valid for both VA and MD sides of the park). But I know how to visit for free — ask me my secret!”

“Whether it’s North America’s longest cascading fountain or the vibrant drum circle that gathers every Sunday, there’s plenty to capture at Meridian Hill Park in Columbia Heights. The terrazzo walls will transport you (and your followers) from the nation’s capital to a European city with just one photograph!”

“You can Uber, or take a scooter, or I recommend take the water taxi. Historic, great views; National Park maintained by the Federal government; tours of the barracks and more. Views of the Francis Scott Key Bridge – see where the Star Spangled Banner was written!”

“DC may be known for its monuments and memorials, but the city's waterfronts also offer plenty to see and photograph. The District’s two rivers, the Potomac and the Anacostia, shine brightly once the warm weather of summer settles on the nation's capital, setting the scene for the perfect active 'gram.”

“I occasionally go here at night, sit on the steps, and just observe the reflection pool along with the Washington Monument in the night sky. I honestly think the experience is better at night. There’s usually college aged adults and small groups of tourists around even at 1am. ”

“Younger crowds, the other side of the Inner Harbor. Tons of bars, Cross Street Market, and more. Close to the stadiums for games. If you're here for a game, this is a good spot to hang out before or after – Uber is your best bet but a 2 mile walk will get you there following the Inner Harbor!”

“Take a serene walk through Kent Islands Nature Park. This hidden gem of a park has unlikely access through an industrial/business area. The entrance is gained off Log Canoe Circle. Park in the parking lot and follow the trail. The trail winds around the 270-acre nature park through woodlands, marsh, and tidal ponds. Take one of the side trails off to the left to get to the beach that runs along the shore of the Chesapeake that allows dogs on a leash. The views of the Bay are great and the surroundings tranquil. The beach isn't huge, but Rover will love the romp.”

“About an hour away in Calvert County, MD: Featuring a half mile of bay-front sandy shore and a netted swimming area, Breezy Point Beach is an unspoiled spot to beat the heat. With plenty of space for sandcastles and shark-tooth hunting as well as a playground and picnic area, the park is a definite kid-pleaser. (The shore line can be a bit pebbly so bring water shoes). There is also a 200-foot pier for fishing and crabbing if you want to secure your supper. . Breezy Point is open from 6 a.m. to dusk. Entry to the park is cash only. Admission is $10 on weekends and $6 on weekdays for adults;”

“Catoctin Mountain Park, located in north-central Maryland, is part of the forested Catoctin Mountain ridge that forms the eastern rampart of the Appalachian Mountains. . The east side of the park features stunning vistas, challenging terrain, and access to Cunningham Falls. Most trailheads begin at the visitor center. Parking and trailheads are also available by the park headquarters and at three points along Park Central Road. . The west side of the park is the wilder side. Adventurous hikers are more likely to see wildlife, wetlands, and an up-close view of nature. Remnants of former farms dot the land. The park's picnic areas, campgrounds, and back-country shelters connect with the trails. ”

“ Rich in history, this park provides recreational offerings that engage visitors and help connect them with farming practices that formed its unique pastoral landscape. This 1,860-acre park has scenic views, woodlands and the rolling pastures of a historic farm that captures the colonial through modern life of the Crooked Run Valley. Nature and history programs are offered year-round. Hiking, picnicking, fishing and primitive hike-in camping for families and groups are favorite activities in this peaceful getaway on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The park has 10.5 miles of bridle trails, 22 miles of hiking trails, 9 miles of bike trails and Appalachian Trail access.”
