This all-inclusive rate is the best value of any saltwater destination on the planet. "An extraordinary adventure" Putting Christmas Island into words is a bit like catching the proverbial moonbeam in a bottle -- it's hard to do justice to the island's magnificent fishery and to capture the kaleidoscope of experiences. Weekly Package, rate is based on double occupancy with a shared room and shared guide.
Accommodations during your one week stay at Christmas Island will be at the Ikari House Lodge. Conveniently located in the village of London, the Lodge is operated by an English-speaking staff, and nestled on the water overlooking the island's vast lagoon. 10 modern, simple but pleasantly decorated rooms offer air conditioning and private baths. They are all on one floor and open onto a Maneaba facing the water. Each room has a small refrigerator and private bathroom, which includes a shower heated by solar energy. The dining will include ample portions of a variety of hearty meals as well as some exotic dishes and lots of fresh seafoods. Meats and vegetables are flown in from Hawaii, so there's no concern about stomach disorders. Groups are treated to a weekly luau, featuring fresh lobsters and complete with traditional native singing and dancing. The open-air Maneaba on the beach is where the gang usually gathers each evening to spin yarns of record bonefish that got away or the ravages of imposing trevally. Both are always well-stocked, there's plenty of ice, and the informal atmosphere couldn't be better. Guests will be treated to (6) six full days of guided fly fishing via super Panga with one guide per two anglers. All Lodge facilities, meals, guides, on-island transfers, and lodging are included in the $2950 weekly rate. The Lodge staff is available around the clock drug your visit for your convenience.
Christmas Island is primarily an angler's destination however, there are some other great activities. There is excellent diving, as well as various island touring and eco activities that can be arranged for you. Ever dream of swimming with Manta Rays? All on-island transfers are provided in your weekly package for your convenience. Christmas Island offers what is perhaps the best saltwater fly fishing in the world, with vast numbers of fish - and some very big ones - on easily waded, clean, hard, white sand flats. Experienced flats fishers will often average 10 or 15 bonefish a day, with a 20-plus fish day possible anytime. And while most of these will average about 3-4 pounds, several could be in the 6- to 9-pound range. Trophy bones are always possible. We've had numerous reports of weighed and measured 10-14 pounders and even larger fish that have been spotted, hooked and lost. More and more anglers are adding to the daily excitement with three different kinds of trevally - Giant (to 100 pounds-plus), Bluefin (to 15 pounds), and Golden (to 20 pounds and more) - that are taken with fly, or spinning tackle on the flats while bonefishing and also along the lagoon edges and in the surf. Trevally (a kind of jack) are awesomely strong fish that strike savagely at or near the surface. Some fly fishers are going with hopes of breaking IGFA line class records for these amazing fish.
Are you after a quiet and cheap place to stay in Tarawa? Why not try my place? It is a self-contained house on its own, situated at a good location (Antenon) at the ocean side, not far from the University of the South Pacific Centre, parliament and not that far from the town, Bairiki.
My house used to be rented by expatriates who come to work in Kiribati, but now we have recently opened it up to visitors via Airbnb. Since then we have had guests from the UK, Australia and New Zealand staying at thw house. The house has a double bed which suits a single guest or a couple. It has a small kitchen with a new stove and fridge, and comes with an outdoor laundry with a new washing machine. It has air conditioning and Sky Pacific TV. Guests will have full access to the whole house and compound to themselves. The property is fully fenced and accessible by car or foot from the main road. The owner is currently based overseas and therefore you will expect a very peaceful stay. However, there is a caretaker who will be there to check you in and respond to any needs you may have during your stay. Feel free to contact the owner during your stay. She is usually very responsive and has direct contact with the caretaker.
The house is fully fenced and neighbours are expatriates from New Zealand and Australia working in Kiribati who rent 3 other houses nextdoor. It has a spacious front yard for parking. Having a rental car is handy, but not necessary as public transport is also easily accessible. A local SIM is cheap and is easy to get from ATHKL, the main Internet Service Provider on the island. Once your phone is configured for mobile Internet, you can access internet from the house. The main ATHKL outlet is in Bairiki, 10 minutes drive (5.3 km) from the property.
