Temple
“The compact Man Mo temple was built in 1891 as a place of devotion for Man, the god of literature, and Mo – the god of war. There are other temples under this name throughout China and even one on Hong Kong Island. Huge incense coils hang from the temple's ceiling that burn up to three weeks nonstop, leaving a heady scent and an exotic atmosphere. Devotees burn paper houses, servants, cars and other luxuries for their relatives who have passed away (in the belief that the items can be used by them in the next life.) Many elderly people use the temple grounds as a socializing venue and play mahjong while others while away the afternoon in conversation.”

“Bride’s Pool Waterfall is probably the most scenic, hidden treasure in Hong Kong. The waterfall, and its surrounding area is popular with picnic/barbecue goers, and hikers. Bride’s Pool also makes for a scenic, natural swimming pool attracting many visitors during the summer.”

“The thickly forested 460-hectare Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve is Hong Kong’s most extensive woodlands. It is home to many species of butterflies, amphibians, birds, dragonflies and trees, and is a superb place in which to enjoy a quiet walk. The reserve is crisscrossed with four main tracks ranging in length from 3km to 10km, plus a short nature trail of less than 1km. If possible, avoid the reserve on Sunday and public holidays, when the crowds descend upon the place. The reserve is well served by buses. Bus 70 passes through Jordan and Mong Kok on its way here. Bus 72 can be used to get here from the nearby Sha Tin and Tai Po Market East Rail stations.”

“Neighbouring Pat Sin Leng on the west, the Plover Cove Reservoir is an inlet with grand scenery. Orbiting the placid reservoir is the Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail. This green circuit is 15.5 km long and takes about 6 to 7 hours to complete. Crossing a very idyllic part of Hong Kong, marked with rolling peaks and dramatic seascape, the trail is a challenge for all hikers. ”
