“Magellan's Cross (Spanish: Cruz de Magallanes, Tagalog: Krus ni Magallanes) is a Christian cross planted by Portuguese and Spanish explorers as ordered by Ferdinand Magellan upon arriving in Cebu in the Philippines on (depending on source) 16 (U.S. date) or 17(Philippines date) March 1521.This cross is housed in a chapel next to the Basilica Menor del Santo Niño on Magallanes Street, just in front of the city center of Cebu City. A sign below the cross states that the original cross is encased inside the wooden cross made of tingalo wood. This is to protect the original cross from people who chipped away parts of the cross for souvenir purposes in the belief that the cross possesses miraculous powers. Some people, however, believe that the original cross has been destroyed or disappeared after Magellan's death and the cross is a replica that was planted there by the Spaniards after they successfully christianized the Philippines.”

“The Lantaw Restaurant chain in Cebu has quickly gown to be one of the most popular restaurants in Cebu. It has branches in Cordova (Mactan Island), in Busay and the SRP. Lantaw offers affordable local cuisine with some of its more popular dishes being Crispy Pata, Spicy Scallops, Grilled Pork Belly and Cordova Express. While you eat enjoy some of the wonderful views of Cebu City. The restaurants offer some of the best views in town.  I had a beautiful sunset one of the times I ate at their floating restaurant in Cordova. While the Busay branch had some amazing views of Cebu City at night (see video). Of the two I found the Lantaw Floating Restaurant (on Mactan Island) a bit out of the way and hard to get to. Either you will need to organise a taxi to wait for you (for an extra fee) or catch one the tricycles to take you back to the main road to try and hail down a taxi. The place gets busy and if you don’t make a reservation it could be a bit of wait. I had to wait 40 minutes for a table on one visit. The restaurant in Busay isn’t nearly as bad to get to as it is closer to Cebu City. I actually liked this branch more and the food tended to be better here. There is also a branch at the SRP which I have not tried as yet. For me Lantaw Restaurant is a good place to eat at. If you want to try some local cuisine in Cebu at good prices this is certainly a great place to start. More for the casual laid back person wishing to eat with family or friends. If you wanted to eat somewhere romantic in Cebu  I wouldn’t really say this is the place to go, not if you want somewhere quiet anyhow. Overall a good restaurant to eat in Cebu without having to spend too much. ”

“Fuerte de San Pedro is a military defense structure in Cebu (Philippines), built by the Spanish under the command of Miguel López de Legazpi, first governor of the Captaincy General of the Philippines. It is located in the area now called Plaza Indepedencia, in the pier area of the city. The original fort was made of wood and built after the arrival of Legazpi and his expedition. In the early 17th century a stone fort was built to repel Muslim raiders. Today's structure dates from 1738 and is the oldest triangular bastion fort in the country. It served as the nucleus of the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines. During the Philippine Revolution at the end of the 19th century, it was attacked and taken by Filipino revolutionaries, who used it as a stronghold.”
