Cinzia and Ivan were great hosts. The apartment had everything we needed. We used the kitchen a lot. Cinzia's breakfasts were great!
Some highlights of our stay:
-Very rare black parrots in the trees around the house multiple times. We actually didn't see them at Valley de Mai or Fons Ferdinand but we saw them here and woke up many mornings to their sweet calls.
-Awesome food experience at the fruit stand in front of the church. We bought fresh passion fruits every day. Tony and Elvis made us dinner one night of delicious fire roasted breadfruit. We are vegetarians and this was our first time eating the breadfruit which tasted a bit like a roasted potato but soft like white bread. Another evening, they made us a traditional desert with breadfruit in coconut milk, sugar, and vanilla, with many local ingredients. Tony was kind enough to show us around his farm which has great potential if it develops as he hopes. He gave us some tasty hot peppers, star fruits, and citrus. His vacation house at the top of the hill has amazing views.
-Very good snorkeling at Anse Lazio. We went to the far left beach around the big rocks. We saw many colorful fish. Inside the swimming area we also saw some pretty cowtail rays.
-Great excursion with Ivan to Curieuse island. We loved the free-roaming giant tortoises and all of the interesting crab species in the mangroves.
We also loved the other local animals: Madagascar Fody, Seychelles bulbul, incredible flying foxes, doves, noddys, terns, etc.
We haven't really been to a place before where it was possible to see ALL of the endemic wildlife that are present on the island.
After visiting La Digue, we found that we preferred Praslin. Our experience is that it is more informal and a little less separation between local people and visitors.
