With a luxury bathroom/kitchen/lounge cottage and decks, quirky art, and a beautiful natural landscape - this is truly a unique holiday spot. Feed the tame sheep, gather mushrooms, graze from the organic pipfruit and citrus orchards and wander the open spaces.
Just 3 minutes from Mapua seaside village with its artisans, cafes, beaches, wine bar, craft brewery, this is the best of all worlds. We have a cycle fleet to explore the Great Taste Trail - wineries and rolling countryside surround Kissing Gate.
Recline in the Cape Cod chairs, soak in the hot bath at night and muse on the stars above.
Abel Tasman National Park, Nelson Lakes National Park, and Kahurangi National Park are all close by - as is Nelson city (25 mins).
Guests have sole occupancy of Kissing Gate and its environs. It is private and quiet. Park your car or bikes just outside the site and walk in 25metres.
Adele and Roger live 120 metres away across the field and through the citrus orchard. As 4th generation Kiwis, they can assist you with any queries. Roger is a former outdoor pursuits instructor and environmental educator; Adele is a designer and runs courses for women. Both of us have extensive knowledge of the Nelson region. We can tell you all about the magic that is Mapua seaside village with its music scene, craft pub, cafes, beaches, art studios.
Be prepared to totally relax and indulge in reading, cycling, cafeing, exploring. This just a small example of what guests say:
"Dear Roger and Adele
Quite simply this is a gorgeous little hideaway you have shaped and we have loved staying here at Kissing Gate. A wonderful mixture of rustic "pieced together" charm combined perfectly with vintage holiday style, and then you successfully adorn it all with a layer of plush cosy comfort :-) Bravo!!! Even now I'm writing this as I sit under soft light with crickets serenading me, and my wife lounging blissful in your bath under the stars with a book and glass of bubbly. Truly her happy place!
All this is wonderful, but is so much more so thanks to your kind help and genuinely friendly hospitality; thank you for kindly considering Bastion (who we can say has had a brilliant first experience in a caravan) , and also for all your local tips and advice.
May Kissing Gate bring you many happy years of beyond satisfied guests! :-)
All our best wishes and thanks.
Martin , Carys and Bastion Tidy" March 2016
This is a quiet rural area and we expect respect for the property. Kissing Gate is designed for couples (no children) who can pretend they are 'roughing it' when, actually, they are indulging in luxury camping! Guests can request a single night stay - a surcharge applies.
