I spent 4 days/5 nights at Stance's garden studio in mid-August and was sorry I couldn't stay longer. The studio is its own small, single-story building in Stance's large garden, affording privacy if you want it. On sunny days you can sit outside at one of two tables, a small one tucked into a plant-filled nook right outside the kitchen/entry door or a large one a few more steps away in the garden proper. The garden is rustic and welcoming, and enjoys the occasional feline visitor.
The studio itself was a perfect size for my needs. The kitchen though compact includes a 4-burner counter-top gas stove, a small fridge (similar to a hotel fridge), a combo microwave, conventional, and I believe convection oven, and a washer. No dryer but a large drying rack in the garden would be great if you have enough drying time. The WC (very compact) and roomy new shower are at one end of the 'kitchen'. There's a small wooden table that can accommodate three people. The combined kitchen/bathroom/laundry room had an electric water heater, an espresso pot, tea, coffee, some pots, pans, cutlery, and glassware, and Stance had left fruit and walnuts, and later apples from her tree, all of which made a great start to my days when combined with kefir!
The second room was a combo living/bedroom with a double/queen bed (yummy sheets, comfy pillows, a mattress that's on the softer side but that didn't bother my back) as well as a day bed (ell-shaped modern sofa by day, double bed if needed by night). A small TV, heater, an armoire, and bookshelf round out the room. The studio has a large skylight (with a shade), and plenty of air circulation if you'd like.
Apart from its charm and lovely host, the studio is just a 5-minute walk from Haarlem's central station and another 5-7 to the Grote Markt. Stance kindly lent me her bike, which I took to explore the city one day and could have ridden out to Bloemendaal San Zee to see the dunes and seashore.
Some might find the proximity of the passing trains noisy. For me it was background noise that added to the rustic charm of Stance's place. I would definitely return here.
