If you like the privacy of not having neighbors close by and living away from town but close enough to zip into town when you want this is a great place. It is also completely solar powered and off grid but with all the amenities of town homes. It is quiet at night with the predominant sounds being that of the desert and ocean as we are two miles up the canyon from the beach. Mi casa es su casa so you can build a fire in the pit, bbq on your big deck, or stargaze from your hammock.
The home inside and out is finished concrete Mexican style called pulido. It is mostly colored from the surrounding natural clay. The patios are tile. It has an open airy feel with 10 foot ceilings and lots of windows. We are in the desert canyons above the beach and below the mountains yet only 10 minutes from town. In fact you have a view of downtown Todos Santos from the roof deck which you have access too even from the gourd floor casita. Although we are in the desert the home is cool with lots of fans and clean. I have well behaved dogs and yours are more than welcome as well. I live upstairs and the casita is downstairs with your own access from the backyard. You have one parking space in front of the house but right outside the driveway you can park anywhere if you have another car.
You have access to the roof deck for spectacular views and chilling out as well as the whole patio and back yard right outside your door. You have a bbq on the patio you can use. I fish so sometimes I bring back some grillables. If you mountain bike we are literally at the foot of the best mountain bike single track trails in the canyon as well as hiking trails in the desert canyons.
I am available anytime for guests as I live in the upstairs casita but as I am opening a cafe I am gone most of the day. I respect my guests privacy but am more than happy to give you the best advice for food options and day trips. I actually do tours as well so if you want to go whale watching in Magdalena Bay, do a surf trip, go snorkeling, mountain bike, or hike the Sierra's it can all be arranged.
I am off grid so I am powered fully by the sun. You just have to take extra precaution to turn off lights and fans that are not being used. Also there is a 10,000 liter water tank under the garage so there is plenty of water but since we are in a water scarce region no real long showers please. Almost all your grey water gets collected in storage tanks and is pumped to the organic garden so we are a pretty enclosed system. I'm not a full on tree hugger but I do like to leave a small dent on our fragile planet. Oh...the road to get to my house is a bit rough so if you are driving a low rider forget about it. A truck or a jeep is preferred but if you have a sedan you can make it driving slow. Off the paved road you have about 1 mile of dirt road. I just had the beach road graded so its much easier to get to the West side of town and the beach. For that road access I will have to show you when you are here. I plan on putting up some sign posts soon. If you are not driving I can arrange a pick up at the bus station in town as well as a drop off. I have a Landcruiser that I rent out for $50/day but is limited to local use for beach excursions etc. No more than 3 adults or two adults with two children as it is not a big space. One bedroom/1bath. There is a 2nd bedroom that can be opened up that is attached that can fit two more adults. The price then is $20 for each additional guest.
No big rules. Have fun, relax, be respectful and its all good. Dogs are allowed for an additional $10/night. Kids of all ages are welcome. $30 cleaning fee paid on arrival and that's it! Relax/enjoy.
Hi. My name is Gabriel. I moved to Todos Santos about 3 years ago after really taking a liking to it after a couple of surf trips. I built a house that is totally off grid and that recycles most of what it uses. Solar panels for lighting and satellite tv. propane refrigerators for refrigeration, and recycling of most grey water to an organic garden via sump pumps in collection barrels. We live in a water scarce area so this is essential. The pros: your host, me, is super laid back, helpful in all you need to know about the area, not mister nosey and respectful of your privacy. I have travelled around the planet on long backpacking trips from Amsterdam, to Laos, to Siberia, to Africa etc, etc, etc. I surf and mountain bike which happens to be great in this area, I am a documentary movie junkie, and I like to listen to somewhat obscure indie rock bands. I have a son with a baby mama in La Paz and spend as much time with him as I can. I have 3 dogs and a couple other canine visitors at times because I serve up some really good dog food! so If you have a pet that is cool as long it is a dog. I like cats but don't trust the dogs with them. Their names are Ninja, Buddy, and Lobita. They are all rescues and like me because I pet them and feed them. Dogs are pretty simple much like myself. Lets see, I don't really like talking about myself too much but here are a couple more things. One of my favorite movies is Bitter Moon by Roman Polanski, one of my favorite bands is the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and I love to cook. Used to own a restaurant and a cafe and currently working on another business/cafe.
