Antony's place was OK, 20min ride to manhattan. Even the train noise wasn't that bad, you can get used to it. Most likely wouldn't stay there again.
Unfortunately this guest had different expectations on arrival, so his review is likely tainted by his disappointment in what he thought he was going to get. This guest expected there to be two beds or two rooms available for him and his friend (despite only paying for 1 room). When it was apparent that was not the case, he tried to have his friend sleep in the living room; which is not allowed in this place. I tried to accommodate these guests by providing them with an airbed for his friend. I found out after they left, that for some reason, they had pulled out and setup an old airbed I had in the closet without even asking for permission. I still wonder why they needed a third bed. The permanent roommates also complained about them not aiming properly in the bathroom, which is funny because these guests then complained about the toilets being dirty. I did have one major complaint about this guest when they left. They apparently broken one of their bags, so they filled up the bag with pieces of wood and garbage, threw it down the building stairs (leaving broken pieces of plastic from the bag throughout the stairway, and finally just tossed the garbage (broken bag full of wood and garbage) in front of a neighboring property. Why they did this when there was a garbage area specifically pointed out to them, I don't know. I should have written my own bad review on this guest but I usually avoid doing that so as not to damage guests' personal ratings on here. However any other hosts should be aware to maintain a tighter control on these guests if they accept them.
I'm writing a response to the best of my ability as I need to base my responses on a translation of this guest's review. Before anything else, as mentioned by this guest, I'd had a larger room on the quiet side of the building available and offered it to her and her friends; so please note her review isn't even of the room she had reserved. Now let me write my responses as to her complaints. First as to her complaint about the mold on the curtain and tub. She didn't mention this to me at all during her stay. Otherwise I could have taken care of it at the time (I had extra curtains in stock). I did find what could have been mold on the curtain a bit after she had departed and changed the shower curtain at that time. I doubt it was there very long, as I had two long term guests staying at this place before this guest and they hadn't mentioned anything either. Neither did the cleaning person who cleaned after the other guest left. We did hit a heat wave before this guest's arrival and the room was empty during that week so its quiet possible that the sudden heat wave caused mold to grow. I've seen mold grow pretty quickly in some places when its very hot and humid. There wasn't any mold around the bath. One of the permanent roommates use one of those black oil soaps and I suspect that this guest confused leftover dropping from that soap as mold (that might also have been on the shower curtain). As for the room being cold during the first night of her stay, again I wish this guest had just contacted me as this would have been a very easy fix. As mentioned the city had just gone through a week long heat wave and the window air conditioner had just been installed in expectation of the warm weather. It sounds like this guest was unlucky and arrived on a night that was cooler than normal (might also have been raining that night). It also sounds like she was disturbed by some air making its way around the window air conditioner. I am a bit surprised at this, as even though it might have been a cool night, it was still May (spring/summer weather in NYC). But irregardless, if she had just mentioned this to me, I could have instructed the guests to just remove the window air conditioner (very easy to do) so they could close the window or done it for them as soon as I could.
The room was bigger than anywhere else we've stayed in Brooklyn for the price! We loved how close to the train we were and how friendly the host was. The train being right outside the window really wasn't a big deal, because he had warned about it. It slows down at night and didn't interrupt our sleep at all. It's in such a good location. 10/10 recommend.
I'm sorry Aimee wasn't happy with her stay but she also did not mention any of these issues during her stay so I can try and one or more of them. An additional note Aimee actually took over the reservation from another guest who had to leave early. They were actually suppose to be handling any issues with her, I'd added her reservation directly to my calendar to simplify matters. This guest also stay in the apartment during a time when I was mostly out of town so could not keep an eye out for any issues myself, although nothing was reported to me by her during her stay. The cleanliness of the bathrooms does depend on everyone staying in the apartment doing their part, that included these guests; but outside of a day's delay in getting a cleaning done in the apartment when they came in I didn't get any other reports from them during their stay. A note, there are 2 bathrooms in the apartment not 1 as she mentions. I'm not sure if she didn't notice the other bathroom during her stay or just mis-wrote here. They have usually been enough to accommodate the usual number of people in the apartment, but some people do have differing personal requirements. The listing does specifically note the number of rooms in the apartment and the number of bathrooms. As for the kitchen, something might be lost in the translation, I'm not sure how the kitchen is suppose to urge one to cook. As this guest mentions, the kitchen is stocked up and gives guests the ability to cook if they want to; most guests don't cook. That's pretty much all I can do in this regards, whether it motivates guests to cook or not that is up to any particular person. As for the living room, a couple of the permanent roommates here are using the living room for their own use as well, which accounts for the exercise machine and the temporary photoshoot area another roommate setup. However they are permanent roommates here and have a right to make use of the living room, its not setup solely for the use of guests. I'm sorry Aimee wasn't happy with her stay although I would have prefered had she said something during her stay if there was an issue with something that I could help with. These guests did lose a set of keys and break a curtain rod during their stay, costs which I waived, and did not report anything to me until the day after they left. Its also possible that the review is affected by their expectation of a less than excellent review of my own (which I generally avoid unless its something major).
