Holiday Home in Warstiens, Friesland
The holiday home, a renovated labourer’s cottage, stands in the village of Warstiens, near Grou (Grouw) and Earnewald (Eernewoude). (The first names are Frisian, the second Dutch.)
There’s a big garden around the house with an open view on the Frisian meadow scenery.
Warstiens consists of 4 farms, 6 houses and a church. One can get there by a dead end road from Wergea (Warga) or by boat on the Langdeel, the water route from Leeuwarden to Earnewald. There are shops and yacht-basins in Wergea and Warten (Wartena).

Lay-out and interior
-A living room with dining area and kitchen
-A bedroom with a double bed
-A small bedroom with built-in double bed and washbasin
-A small bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin
-An attic with four single beds
The home has a simple interior. There are gas heaters in every room. Tenants can either take along their own bedclothes or rent them. There are quilts and pillows in the home.
The mattresses are sized as follows:
140 x 200 cm (56 x 80 inches)
140 x 190 cm (56 x 76 inches)
70 x 200 cm (28 x 80 inches)
Bedclothes can be rented for € 8,- euro a bed. Making up the beds costs € 4,- euro a bed. The rent of a set of towels is € 5,- for each person.
The week begins on Saturday and ends on Friday 6 p.m. (because of the cleaning), unless agreed otherwise. The weekend begins on Friday 9 p.m. and ends on Monday, unless agreed otherwise.
Sometimes last minute discount is possible; ask the managers for more information.
How to get there:
One can get to the home in Warstiens on bicycle, by boat, by car or on foot.
By public transport one travels via Leeuwarden (train), and Warstiens (‘belbus’, phone bus; to be booked at least an hour and a half in advance; “de opstapper” number 745; at least one and a half houre before, telephone: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN))
Ask the driver of the ‘belbus’ to stop at number 2 in Warstiens.
Get on the bus from Warstiens at the church, a minute’s walk from the home.
Bicycles are for hire on the train station in Leeuwarden.
By car, one drives via Drachten/Warten/Wergea, Leeuwarden/Wergea or Heerenveen/Wergea; in Wergea, turn off at the churchyard in the direction of Warstiens.
By boat on the Langdeel, tie up in the most northerly ‘sloot’ (small canal) to Warstiens, on the northern quay.
