We are Rockne and Desiree (Rock and Des). We are excited to call this beautiful Raquette Lake hideaway with with the two cabins our home.
Raquette Lake is a magical place that touched us profoundly. To us it is the most beautiful lake in the heart of the Adirondacks, where our soul finds rest with every deep breath we take. Nothing, we agree, is as soothing to us as watching a sunrise or sunset over the lake (with a nice cup of coffee). It may be even more magical to us, as this is the place we met, fell in love and eloped.
Being an outdoor enthusiast, Rock will hush you in the middle of a conversation to point out an eagle in the sky, a jumping fish, an edible wild flower, a trace of an animal or some sort of hairy scat. Growing up near Corning, NY, he has made the Adirondacks his home for a dozen or so years. Rock's outdoor education is multifaceted and he also holds several certifications including wilderness first aid, NYSDEC Certified Guide #7143, a master educator of Leave No Trace and a waterway maintainer of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, to name a few . He also holds certification as a NYS Public Vessel operator and has been teaching water ski and canoeing at Raquette Lake Camps for many years.
Desi loves to play outside as much as her Rock. Born and raised in Austria (among other European countries) no mountain is too high for her in summer or winter. She loves to ski or board on water and snow, to hike and paddle or to laze on the dock in the sun. Desi also enjoys cooking, reading a good book and listening to classical music, if and when she finally decides to sit still. She speaks five languages fluently and is very talented with interior decorating.
The cabins will be open for weekly rentals from May through mid-October and weekends through the winter months. We will also offer guide services/suggestions for day or overnight hiking/camping/ paddling trips and water-skiing lessons by the hour with our guests and visitors. Don’t be looking for TV’s as we plan to simplify and get outside.
Welcome to the Cabins at Raquette Lake!
