Right from the moment we booked the cottage at Jivana, Robin was very straightforward in explaining to us that we might encounter a few hiccups, since we'd made the request during rainy season. We agreed and went ahead with the booking anyway. And just as he'd warned us, there were a few issues, what with a severe storm on the very night we arrived, leading to an all-night power cut, a curtailed food menu, blocked drains and so on. But Robin and his staff dealt with the mess like pros. They not only gave us two free room upgrades to tide over our troubles (the last room we stayed in -- one of the Temple Suites -- was large, simple and beautiful, with a fantastic view of the surrounding forests), but also allowed us free use of one of the scooters at Jivana when we wanted to go visit a nearby beach.
The Jivana property itself is breathtaking in the monsoon: lush, pretty and full of all kinds of exotic birds. We look forward to returning there during the drier seasons, when their yoga shala is in action, the smaller cottages are back to ship-shape and the full food menu is available once again.
