A traditional yet modern saltbox house right on the ocean in Upper Amherst Cove, Bonavista Bay. Enjoy drinks on the patio and watch whales, sea birds, icebergs & stunning sunsets. Feet away from the award-winning bakery & restaurant, The Bonavista Social Club.
Recent upgrades this year include new comfy beds, a fully upgraded kitchen, new furniture, flooring and more.
This is my family home with very old roots in Upper Amherst Cove, Bonavista Bay. Located 15 minutes from historic Bonavista, the home offers a truly unique experience of rural Newfoundland and Labrador. Right on the ocean, it is the perfect place to get away from the city and slow down in a private but welcoming community with wonderful locals. Great for family vacations, outdoors pursuits, to write that book/create art, meditate on the beach or take in the stunning sunsets, icebergs and whales! Baycation at it's finest, literally feet away from the sea!
The home has three modern bedrooms with linens (two double beds, one single). The home is fully furnished, large ocean front patio, featuring a new washer and clothes dryer plus large traditional clothesline outdoors. Bathroom with tub, shower and towels, hairdryer, kitchen with all cooking tools, and a large yard to enjoy. We are feet away from the beach, perfect for bonfires, swimming in the Atlantic and exploring, endless coastal and forest hiking trails, natural wildlife, or pick wild berries and wild flowers. Look out for icebergs!
You can also walk across the field to the new gourmet local food restaurant/wood oven bakery; The Bonavista Social Club or visit artisan carpenters at Paterson Woodworking. You can admire their amazing gardens or be lucky enough to meet some of their grazing goats or chicks who make the cove their home! Also enjoy the local Five Cove's Garden Party in Newman's Cove in August.
We are driving distance to Rising Tide Theatre in Trinity, Random Passage set in New Bonaventure, the new microbrewery in Port Rexton, Elliston (home of the Puffin Festival and the Roots, Rants and Roars culinary event) and are close to many other beautiful coastal towns full of history and unique events.
I grew up in this house with my big family, as did my father and several other generations before him, so there's a lot of love, stories, laughter and welcoming energy as soon as you enter. The door has always been open to friends, old and new, so we hope you enjoy it!
Please contact for more info or to make reservations. Artist Residencies are also available.
*Please note: There are several taxi companies that offer shuttles to/from St. John's to Upper Amherst Cove. Pleas inquire for more information.
Guests will have the entire house to themselves, including the large outdoor yard with swings and spacious seaside patio with chairs to sit back and enjoy the view.
Guests will have total privacy while visiting, however if you need anything I am only a phone call or text away. I will have a local contact for emergencies or concerns.

Hope you have a lovely stay. Please let me know if you need anything at all!
I work in theatre and film, and all spectrums of the art world. I am based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, but I grew up in my home in Upper Amherst Cove until I went on to study Theatre (Acting) in university. I'm a big traveller and have found my way around Canada, America, Germany, Britain, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, even camping in the mountains in Peru, to name a few, so I understand the importance of finding a retreat when traveling and experiencing the true life of wherever you visit. I love adventures, exploring, meeting new people, and sharing stories. I proudly grew up with the welcoming Newfoundland "Bay" attitude- take care of one another, always be able to laugh at yourself, and all are welcome!
Although it looked very different, my father grew up in UAC, too, as so did a couple of other Brown Family's. I bought my family home from my parents when they decided to build their retirement home in nearby Bonavista. I'll always have a home here, and so will my family and friends. Have a bonfire under the stars on the beach and you'll know why!
The roots of this home, although buried deep, are at least 140 years old. There has been a lot of love, many new and old friends, laughs, stories and meals shared in this home. I hope you get to explore the wonders of UAC, one of the most influential and beautiful places I've been in my life. I also have found a second home in St. John's, the city with the largest population of artists in one postal code in canada! It's young, energetic, fully of history, begging for exploration and offers so many incredible places to visit. The art, the theatre, the live music (one of canada's best cities with live music every night), Cabot Tower, the narrows and harbour, the people-I hope to meet some of you here in NL! Enjoy!
