I'd like to address some of Shirley's comments herewith. I appreciate surely that she thinks I'm a great host and welcoming....surely I try to be that and more. Good conversation is surely a benefit. Accuracy: There are only six other guests. Some are men, some women, depending upon the bookings. All of the men who were here during Shirley's stay were either doctors or Ph.D. candidates at University of Miami - highly sophisticated, international folks. One was/is Chinese. Shirley was unfriendly to him, and never (to my knowledge) had any discussion (he is, btw, a lovely person - Ph.D. candidate in ancient Chinese philosophy at U.M.) My workers are here during the day only. I have never, in 7 years of AIRBNB hosting, heard or hear of any guest saying "racist" things. Given that most of them are highly educated, sophisticated folks from abroad that just doesn't jibe for me. I don't believe it, frankly....The room IS small, and is advertised as small. It has a large (full) bed, a decent desk, and an armoire. It's meant for sleeping, not calisthenics. The dogs are an integral part of the landscape, and are always around....and they'll chew on their chewies most anywhere. If that's an issue, so be it. I didn't realize that it would take "half your time" to vault over the dogs, but a simple step might do it. The room is surrounded by books (several hundred books), which provide quite good insulation. Perhaps Shirley didn't realize, but the large front window has a one-way glass; it's impossible to see into the room. No one can look in. Yes, the door announces entries, and for safety's sake it makes lots of sense. It's set to do that. There is a community eating space next to the kitchen, although Shirley - who didn't want to speak with anyone else, even the medical docs (she's a nurse-in-training) - never ate there. It's 2 baths for 7 people, btw. There's a large concrete "old-fashioned" table of some 200 lbs. in the back yard, with chairs around it....and a separate sitting area on the southeast corner. The neighborhood is considered one of the safest in America, and the mall is about a 10 minute walk. Shirley's ill-considered comments were reviewed by other guests here, who were shocked (at least). No one said the things she claimed others said....this is pure fiction, as far as I can tell. Perhaps other reviewers will be thought of as being more accurate. Beware. This is not a straight-up guest.
