District Clarksville Today: Many European immigrants settled in Clarksville throughout the early 1900s, building a community still felt today. Anthony Colanetta settled in Clarksville and opened Anthony's Laundry & Cleaners at the corner of West 12th Street and West Lynn in 1950. Colanetta also built a drugstore that he leased to his friend Hylton Nau. Today both stores are still operating, and the soda fountain in Nau Enfield Drugstore is a rare find. (5 blocks from the condo). Indeed, it was during the mid-1970s that Sledd's Nursery, with their high quality plants and organic philosophy, and Jeffrey's high class, eclectic cuisine open their doors, only to have remained Clarksville staples ever since. In 1979 Craig Weller and Mark Skiles opened Clarksville Natural Grocery, and a year later they joined forces with John Mackey to open the first Whole Foods, then called Clarksville Natural Grocery.
No pets, no smoking inside, please be considerate and loving to this sanctuary, we expect guests to treat our lovely abode with respect, as if it is their own home.
This account is ran primarily by Diamantina's daughter, Jackie who lives full-time in this space. But for now she is in vacations for 2 months.
Her style of hosting is entirely independent, she is willing to give you tips on where to go, what to see and where to eat, and if the opportunity presents itself get together for an adventure around town.
Words to live by... just be you, remember to breathe, learn to relax and enjoy yourself.
Diamantina doesn't live in Austin but when she comes up here she enjoys walking miles and miles all over downtown, the river and the quaint little neighborhoods that surround Clarksville.
We hope you can enjoy yourself in our Sanctuary as much as we do.
