Restored original stone barn/loft (The Studio) and adjacent farmhouse (The Cottage) fully renovated in 2009, set in mature grounds with small outdoor pool and spectacular views over Dunmanus Bay, Mizen Head and the West Cork Countryside.
Many original features have been retained to create a unique and peaceful atmosphere which compliments the surrounding land and sea.
The Studio is a separate self-contained unit next to the Cottage. Inside there is a kitchen lounge area with sun room attached with sea views. The sun room has its own en suite shower room and iron day bed with trundle to form a king or twin bedroom. Upstairs is a king bedroom with sea views and en-suite shower room.
The larger Cottage next door (listed separately) has 3 bedrooms (with king, twin and singles), family bathroom and en suite shower room to the master bedroom upstairs. Downstairs is a large open-plan kitchen/living room with open fire, Rayburn range cooker and farmhouse kitchen table with seating for 4 guests, a study with single sofa bed and sun room with sea views.
The Cottage (sleeps 6) and Studio (sleeps 4) can be rented separately or together (please ask for quote) and are self-contained, with their own parking spaces, entrances, patios and garden areas. They share use of the outdoor pool and some facilities housed in the separate garage (washer, dryer, freezer, 2 adult bikes and BBQ).
We are based in London but our fantastic local housekeeper, Margaret, is just down the road to help with any problems during your stay.
* The nightly rate shown on the calendar is based on a weekly stay. For shorter stays, please get in touch for a quotation as nightly rates are higher for 3 or 4 night stays. Our minimum stay is 3 nights.
** The Cottage may be let at the same time so expect to see other guests at the property. This is not often the case in the low season (September to May) so you are likely to have the place to yourselves during these months. We will advise if there are other bookings, who the guests are and which nights they are staying.
Alternatively, you may like to opt for exclusive use of both Cottage and Studio (please ask for a quote) and have the place to yourselves or to enjoy with friends and family!
Both properties are non-smoking but you are welcome to smoke in the garden. We welcome dogs but only 2 mature dogs and ones that don't bark excessively or scratch/chew!
We are the owners of Laharandota - Julie FitzGerald and Alessandro Vitelli - based in London for work reasons with grown children and two dogs. I used to organise conferences and events in Europe and Alessandro works in town in business journalism. When we're not working or renovating and maintaining property, we love to travel! This shot was taken in Prague a few years ago.
We love spending time by the sea and have another holiday home in Whitstable, Kent - Heron House - that we also rent out. It's a real privilege to have holiday homes and we like to share these wonderful old houses and coastal locations with people from all over the world.
We were drawn to West Cork on a tour of Ireland back in 2006. I'm of Irish descent (the FitzGeralds & Kellys) and had visited many counties over the years, but West Cork cast its spell over us and we found ourselves spending a lot of time here.
We ended up buying Laharandota on a very warm and sunny weekend in May 2006, on an impulse. The place was owned at the time by an elderly American Artist - Frank Russell - who had had a small pool built and done a great job laying out the gardens. But the Cottage itself was, however, kind of ... well, falling down!
With the help of my father, a retired architect, plans were drawn up and a local builder found and two years later the place was fully restored and transformed. The first holiday guests arrived in May 2008 and for eight years now we've been letting it out when we’re not using it ourselves.
We are still as captivated as ever by the place and we even decided to (finally!) get married there in May 2010 in the little church in Ahakista with all the family present. The romance continues...
