Ideal for sampling life in a bustling, quirky, historic mill town on the Yorkshire Lancashire boarder and surrounded by some of England's most spectacular scenery Walkers Cottage is a traditional mill workers terraced house - now with all mod cons.
Walkers Cottage has been furnished and styled to reflect the local area. It's warm and cosy sitting room/dining room features a fireplace, chairs and sofa with throws for you to snuggle under and original artworks by local artists. There's a flat screen TV, a DVD player and a whole drawer of DVDs for you to choose from if you want to relax and watch a movie. The house is just 5 minutes walk from Mario's renound Italian restaurant so there's no need to cook but if you want to there is a newly fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, washer dryer oven and hob. Following the traditional layout of a weavers cottage the - quite steep -stairs lead from the kitchen up to the first floor where there is a large twin bedded room (the 'duck' room we call it because of its duck egg blue theme and pictures). It is possible to have this made up as a large double on request. Next to this is the shared bathroom with bath and shower and then a small cheery single room ideal for a child. Another flight of stairs takes you to the lovely airy attic double room. This has two large velux windows and a truckle bed under the eaves that would suit another child. A cot for infants is also available on request. The house is in a quiet street away from the main road but within 5 minutes walk of shops and restaurants.
Our guests get sole use of the whole house and its lovely little sunny back- yard, which is ideal for outdoor dining or storing your bikes.
You will normally be welcomed by our housekeeper but if she is not available at a time that is convenient to you then there is a key safe so you can gain access. After that the house is yours. For longer stays the housekeeper may come in and clean one day a week. There is an extra charge for this, to be arranged with her and paid direct. If there is a problem or you need help with anything in the house then numbers for both the housekeeper and myself are available.
There is plenty of helpful and useful information about the surrounding area, restaurants, pubs, walks, activities and local attractions in the on line guidebook and in the house. Please feel free to add to them if you find anything useful. The town's website (URL HIDDEN) is a great source of information also. If you want to stay i and relax there is a selection of book, DVDs and games for you to use during your stay. All beds are made up with clean bedding for your arrival.
We don't allow smoking in the house, though you are welcome to use the yard for cigarettes. Children are welcome, as are one or two well behaved small dogs. Please clear up any accidental spillages etc straight away to avoid long-term damage to carpets and upholstery and if you could replace and breakages that would be appreciated. If your dogs use the yard please clear up any 'accidents' and give the yard a swill down with warm soapy water. If your dogs would like to sit with you on furniture please can you bring your own clean throws to prevent hair and smells - the ones we provide are meant for humans. No dogs on bedding please. Please can you remove any kitchen waste bin bags before you leave and put them in the wheelie bin in the yard. Rubbish collection day is Tuesday so if you can put the wheelie bin out the night before for collection and bring it back in after its been emptied that would really help!
