Charming 1920s home located in the gorgeous, quiet West End of Portland, a 5-minute walk to Longfellow Square on Congress St with its many restaurants, cafes, bars, and music venues.
The house has two floors. Upstairs, there is a large master bedroom replete with a lush queen-sized bed, flat-screen Roku TV with Netflix, HBONOW, Hulu, etc, and two smaller bedrooms, one with a queen-sized memory foam bed and the other with a double/full-sized memory foam bed, and a bathroom with a bathtub. The entirety of downstairs is also for you to enjoy and includes a well-stocked kitchen (dishes, pots, pans, spices, cooking oil, coffee & tea!, etc), a dining room with a large dining room table, a large living room, a sunroom set-up as a small bedroom with a double-sized memory foam bed, and a small bathroom with a shower (note - the shower has a low ceiling but has a hand-held shower head to make it easier). There is also a cute little back porch the opens into a huge, lush, wild, yet terraced, garden. The basement and attic are off-limits. Also, no shoes are allowed inside the house.
I grew up in Portland and then lived in New York City for 22 years so have a sensibility for both small-town pleasures and big-city treasures. I will happily recommend restaurants (or cafes or bars) for whatever vibe you're seeking - brunch, romance, special occasion, cheap and tasty, kid-friendly - you name it. I can also provide recommendations and local insight on beaches, lakes, boating, fairs, art, areas of interest, and of course, on where to find the best lobster!! I will be accessible to you for whatever you might need while giving you total privacy.
This house has been in my family for 60 years so I expect you to treat it and its contents with respect and care. You must be over 21 unless you have messaged me with specifics about your trip and I have approved your special request.
Regarding small children: the house is not baby-proofed and I cannot assume any liability if your little one gets hurt. Infants who aren't yet walking much are perfectly fine, but I'd prefer to not host toddlers because of the risk to them and the potential for damage and other messes.
I want you to enjoy the house completely, and you are welcome to have a few friends over to dinner and a movie; however, no wild parties - if you're looking to get bashed out drunk with your buddies, this is not the place for you. Tipsy with friends over long conversation - of course. If you want to have more than 3-4 people over in addition to the guests staying at the house, you MUST ask me first and explain what the plan is.
No shoes inside the house. (left in the foyer or front hall is of course fine.)
NO smoking inside, but out on the back porch (with the inside door closed) or outside, is perfectly fine. But, it's a quiet neighborhood, so if you're outside at night enjoying the garden, be mindful of being too loud - happy convo til the wee hours is great, but no whooping and hollering.
I don't allow cats, but will consider very well-behaved dogs if they:
- are VERY low-shedders
- are accustomed to travelling and do not make indoor accidents
- will not sleep on the furniture or the bed
- will NOT be left alone in the house

I'm a thoughtfully passionate traveller rooted in the comforts of home. I love to cook and I love to discover stories through food. I'm meticulously clean and yet cozy! I've lived in New York City for over 20 years but grew up in a vegetable garden by the sea; I thrive in both the bustle and the calm, especially when I have both. I work as an Event Manager, but I'm a writer struggling for time, so when I'm not working, I like to restore with some quiet time at home - or better yet, by wandering through any new place absorbing new ideas.
And I'm always open to questions! I tend to have lots of them myself, and I heartily respect them.
Favorite places I've been: Malaysia, Jamaica (my paternal home), Paris, Stockholm, Berlin, Orvieto, a wee island of the Yucatan Peninsula, (though I've been to many other places). Places I am aching to go: Namibia, Iceland, Antigua, Argentina, much more of Mexico, Sardinia, back to Malaysia.
I love dogs! I'm very allergic to cats.
